Bulls**t. You do NOT need an IDP (International Driver Permit). An IDP is NOT a real driver license, but simply a document that translates the information on your driver license into 10 commonly spoken world languages. Since both Texas and Australia speak English you DON'T need one. If you are going to Australia as a tourist your Texas license will be, by international agreement, accepted during your visit. If you are going to Australia to live you MUST obtain an Australian license. Exchange your Texas license for an Australian one You may be required to take the written test, and road test because your license will be from a "foreign" country, and some rules/laws will be different.

Go to this website. it is the official texas dps website. You will need your license handy because it asks for the audit number off the front of the license.
