My fiancee and I both love Coldplay and I really want our first dance to be to one of their songs... he thinks he won't know how to dance to it and because it is a very non-traditional choice, doesn't really want to. I don't really care about that stuff because the song means a lot to us and is slow enough to dance to. Opinions?

I'd do it! You should have music you like at your wedding.

If he's not comfortable with this choice, I'd see if there's something else you can both agree on. The first dance should be to something that makes both of you happy - not something that makes one of you happy but makes the other uncomfortable.

I wouldn't worry much about non-traditional, either, but it sounds like he does. One thing you might consider is there have been a number of compilation albums put out in recent years with current artists recording standards. Perhaps you and your guy could compromise by picking a fairly traditional song done in a fairly non-traditional way.

Tell your fiance not to worry about it, he would dance the same way as in any other song. I think it's great to use a non traditional song especially since it means a lot to you and that is what is important.

Good luck!

I say go for it. It's unique and cute! Definitely practice to see if there is a way to dance to it without looking ridiculous first! It won't be the typical waltz or any other dance couples might learn for their first dance, but if that's not really you, why force it? Congratulations!

do it - the first dance is supposed to be to a song that is important to the both of you - so go ahead with whatever you like. perhaps you may want to look into a one or two time dance lesson.. you can give the instructor your music ahead of time and she can prepare something. *nothing intricate - just so your guy feels comfortable out there!

Practice in your living room. There is nothing stating you have to be traditional and you can certainly dance how you want to. I agree youshould use a song that has meaning to you as a couple.

if it's a favorite song of yours, then do it. i think you might want to listen to the song a lot, and practice.
