It depends on your local laws.
In South Carolina you can be considered an "Occasional Caterer" if you do not do more than 4 events per year.
Thus you are not required to abide by the health guidelines like having drains installed in your floor, etc.
The other thing is if you can run your catering business out of your home because it meets the local health regulations you must also consider if your home is zoned for commercial business.

You might be able to. It may depend on zoning and that sort of thing, but my friend did it for awhile. I'd start calling the city or county where your house is and ask about licensing issues. Someone will eventually get you to the right place. Or do a google search for licensing + kitchen + "name of your county" + "your state" and see what you get.

You can get a permit from the city you live in usually. Just call the city hall or something. They just have to come over and make sure your kitchen is clean annually.

i know a lady that does all her cooking at home and caters out you need get in touch with your local health dept and see if your kitchen is up to code and visit your local town officials and see what fire and safety codes you would need to follow
