Not as an MD, but a technologist. How are the benefits, salary, working conditions etc...? Also, there are many different machines to work in that field...ultrasound, mri, ct, are you trained on all of them in school, or are you supposed to major in one area?

When you go to school for radiologic technology, you just learn x-ray, but you may "rotate" through the different modalities (CT, MRI, mammography, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, radiation therapy, interventional radiology) to get a feel for these areas. Some of these can be learned on the job after you graduate, and some need additional schooling.

You can find accredited schools here: http://jrcert.org/cert/Search.jsp (choose Radiography and your state and search)

Salary varies greatly depending on the area of the country. Here is the most recent salary survey from the ASRT: http://www.asrt.org/content/rts/surveyresults/wageandsalarysurvey/wagesalsurvey2007.aspx

hi i am a rad tech in tn. This job pays very well for the type of work you will do. I have been doing it for about 6 yrs and I am kind burnred out. You can learn all the different modalitys and move on to a different position but this year there has been a shortage of xray jobs. I suggest to you to go for your xray then immediately go for ultra sound or cat scan. you will always be able to find a job in ultrasound and ct. good luck...god bless

i don't think of you want any particular significant. i think of a biology course or 2 will instruct you a thank you to come lower back to a decision which scientific field you want to flow into, in spite of the indisputable fact that. My awareness is that there are purely some faculties offering imaging certificates. in case you are able to land one you would be paid ok once you graduate. ;) do not forget finding at on line classes for the person-friendly college you want.
