My fiance and I have some very close friends that will not be able to attend our wedding next month due to being deployed in the military (he is prior military). I would like to have yellow ribbon pins available for our guests right next to our guest book. Has anyone ever made these?? Seems very easy, but i want them to look good :) do i need to use a hot glue gun or just fold and put on a safety pin???? Just curious if anyone else has done this before and how they did it.

thanks

Actually I have made these and I used a glue gun and you can buy the pins at crafts store like Joanne's or Michaels. (Not safety pins). I also used a stich or 2 to keep them in place. they are very easy!

I think this is such a nice gesture, but I wouldn´t give them pins-I would just give them a yellow ribbon long enough to tie around a tree outside their home. This way, you can honor those not in attendance, and the ribbon can be taken down once they return home. Maybe write out the name of the person the ribbon represents and evenly divide the names so each guest will get one.

my husband is a marine - and we too had some guests unable to come since they were deployed at the time. I think this is a nice idea. we had a catholic mass ceremony which includes the prayer of the faithful - they do it a regular mass, but for a wedding you add whatever you want you have a guest read them and then the whole church responds "lord hear our prayer". so I personally wrote a prayer that mentioned our brave friends who couldnt be with us that day.

what a thoughtful idea!
i think the second answer was wonderful and agree that if you can you should not only have the ribbons, but also include a prayer in your service for these brave men and women!
what a powerful message to all your guests. i am so proud of the men and women who are our military! no matter whether they are army, navy, marines, special forces, medical personnel - all of them!
they deserve recognition and we should stand tall and proud in support of their dedication!
congratulations on your upcoming wedding, may your marriage be blessed!

It might be easier to just buy a bunch of yellow ribbon pins. My sister in law did this with pink breast cancer ribbons. She attached the pins to a small folded over card letting people know that she had donated to a local breast cancer organization in lieu of favors. You could attach the pins to a card with a simple explanation of the yellow ribbon and what it means to you and your husband.

That is so thoughtful and a good idea. I don't know how to make them, so take the others advice. But I just wanted to say that it's a great idea and I'm sure your guests will too. Good luck!
