Do they ask to speak to the main manager or your old manager the one that you list on the application?

Under normal circumstances, they would ask to speak to the manager you listed on the application. However, if that person isn't there, the recruiter could very well ask for the main manager - it just depends on the time frame for hiring you and whether or not the recruiter wants to wait for your old manager to call him/her back.

Also, depending on the job you are applying for, the recruiter might want to speak to the main manager but I would say that's not too likely.

If it's possible to let your old manager know that someone will be calling for a reference or to verify employment within the next few days, I would do so. That way, you have given him/her heads up, and hopefully, they will be available to speak with the recruiter when the call comes in.

For the most part, I think it's a safe bet that your old manager will be the one to get the call. Best wishes and good luck!
