Think of it as a good thing, it means your cat considers you love to be wonderful and gets jealous if your attention is on something else. They do the same things with books.
Also, your sitting may be inviting him. A computer is warm and usually hums softly. He may find it appealing. They also notice the mouse's movements on the screen, so be careful he doesn't try to swipe at the screen. Keep him from jumping on your keyboard (I've discovered my cat lying on my laptop keyboard. He'd started a full search for ddgggggggggggjgkdke and locked some keys.), settle him in your lap, show him you;ll pet him and give him attention just the same if he's in your lap and not on the computer.

Hehehe. I think they do that when they want attention and are jealous of the computer because were staring at it, and playing with it, instead of with them.
My cat does it too sometimes. She's normally not very interested in what I do all day long, but every once in a while when I'm sitting here she'll walk over, starting meowing, jump up on the desk and plant herself right in front on the monitor so I can't see what I'm doing. It's one of the few times my cat will actually tolerate being cuddled in my arms, and I've found that she also likes to watch the mouse pointer and cursors move across the screen.
I know how annoying it can be when a cat wants your attention. Mine also wakes me up in the morning by getting in my face, trying to walk around on my crowded bedside table, and playing with the dangly pull-switch on the lamp. Argh!
Maybe try getting him to play more often when you're not on the computer, and then give him something to help keep him occupied (like cat nip or a snack) when you get on the computer. Maybe he doesn't like any of his toys anymore and he's just bored.
Good Luck >^.^<

It's jealous you get to play with the mouse. Just kidding. My cats used to do this too. And I agree too that it's only because you are not focused on your cat. Cat's have very "me me me" personalities. My cat's used to take turns laying on top of the monitor and either sleeping or hanging one paw down and chasing the cursor across the screen while I was trying to work. Silly little things.

LOL..so is my cat, and she's gonna be 22 yrs old. I think maybe the sound of the keyboard is intriguing. She HAS to get in my lap and sniff the keyboard and me and occasionally gets up and wanders on the keys as well. AH... life with pets eh? Nuttin' better!

Our cat does the same thing - she stretches up and taps me on the elbow. If I don't respond, she does it again and again, even begins to put out her claws so I'm sure to feel the "tap".
Most likely because it's quiet and you've reinforced him/her by responding to its presence.
