Man is separated from God because of sin. Fellowship was broken and the wages of sin is death. Man could not buy his way to righteousness through good works, deeds or rituals. The payment was death. But God provided a loophole, that a substitution could be made. This is where the sacrificial lamb became necessary. Your sins were passed onto the lamb, and the lamb took your payment for sin.
This was a foreshadow for He who was to come. For as Abraham said, "God will provide Himself the Lamb." This was seen when John the Baptist pointed to Jesus and proclaimed "Behold the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world."
If we ask Jesus to be Lord and Savior, we are, in essence, passing our sins onto Him as our personal lamb. Our payment was paid in full on the cross. Which is why Jesus said "Tetelestai" or "paid in full" (commonly translated as "it is finished").
So, with sin paid in full, we now have access to the throne wherein we can cry Abba, Father to the Almighty God. It is through Christ that our sins have been removed and thrown into the deepest ocean and as far as the East is from the West.

1 Cor. 15:1-4
I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you--unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.

I will assume this is not a sarcastic question.
Jesus achieved victory over death.
The purpose was to give mankind a way to at tone for sins through His blood.
He substituted his blood for the lamb of sacrifice, that is why the Bible says He is the perfect lamb.
The Bible does not say you are "saved from your sins", In fact it says you can not hide, your sins will find you.
The only way to be forgiven is to repent, which means to turn away from.
No problem, pray this answers some questions.
Keep asking, but try the Bible. This site does not hold very many truths - more opinions.

1) Jesus achieved salvation for anyone who will believe through His death on the cross.
2) The death on the cross was very painful and agonizing. (you can go to http://www.sitski.com/crucifixion.htm to read about it more). It also fulfilled many prophecies of the Old Testament.
3) He saved us from our sins by offering the sacrifice needed to pay for them. God required a sinless, perfect sacrifice. Christ was the only One who could accomplish that. He took that sins of the world upon Himself and was separated from the Father for the first time in eternity, just for the sins that you and I commit everyday. Then He rose on the third day defeating the grave and death.
4) To be saved means that we will not take the punishment for our sin. This does not give us a license to go out and do whatever we want. The Bible says that when we sin we crucify Christ anew. We should live godly lives as a result of what Christ did for us on the cross.
5) Yes, people still sin. We're human, and we're bound to make mistakes. We should, however, strive to sin less. And only the sins of the one's who accept Christ as their Savior and trust in His death on the cross alone to atone for their sins will be forgiven.
Hope that helps. If you have any questions, you can e-mail me at aarondparks28@yahoo.com.

What did Jesus achieve by dying on the cross? - He experienced the one thing a supreme God cannot - mortality. The sting of death.

How did he save us from our sins? What does it mean that we are saved from our sins? - It is blood atonement. According to Jewish law a sinner would have to slaughter their best sheep or lamb to atone for their sins, much like how we may give a down-payment on a house to seal a contract. But in this way, the good shepherd is slain in the place of his corrupted sheep. It is in a way the total opposite of the Jewish law. Instead of a sinful shepherd killing a good sheep, the good shepherd dies in the place of the bad sheep.

People still 'sin', does it mean that we will all be forgiven by 'God' for all of our sins? - Our sins can be forgiven, but we cannot use our salvation as an excuse to sin. We cannot say, "I am a Christian so I can sin". That is abusing God's grace, and I do not think it will go unpunished. Naturally we will slip and sin, but we cannot use our salvation as an excuse to sin.

because without jesus saving us from our sins we would be dying like for every sin and that is not what God wanted. Jesus was not just a person he was half person half God. Its hard to belive. He did not have a choice but of dying this way because he had a purpose that he would preach about the Lord our God and how great God is and such things of that sort. If you didn't already know this Jesus resurected from his grave 3 days later and showed everyone that there actually IS a God. All of that is how he saved us from our sins. Im sure there is more that youth leaders or Pastors could tell you than me. And YES of course God will forgive us because God is not like us. He is everything we want to be. God is PERFECT! PLEASE for your sake, belive in God and Jesus and its awesome being a Christian so get involved and stuff cause you'll regret it if you don't accept God and Jesus....I can SURELY tell you that you will most likely burn in hell for all and eternity if you don't belive!

well...hope you take my advice seriously

Be still and know that i am God.
I am exhalted among the earth;
I am exhalted among the nations;

That's an excellent question.

You need to go back to the original question of what is sin.

Sin is violating the very nature of God.

For instance, since God is Truth, then when you tell a lie, you violate the nature of God.

Ultimately, all sin is rebellion against God's authority, high treason, which is punishable by death in ANY country.

God doesn't want ANY body to perish in hell, so He voluntarily came to earth as a human, totally human.

He never broke any of God's Laws, and always did what the Father instructed.

When Jesus died on the cross, it was the payment for OUR crimes (ie sins) against God. Justice is justified, so God was released to show mercy and grant us a pardon.

Jesus put it like this, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son, that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, and relies on) him (ie Jesus), would not perish (in hell), but have everlasting life (in heaven). When God sent His Son into the world, it wasn't to condemn the world, but to save it. Whoever puts their trust in the Son of God will not be condemned, but whoever does NOT put their trust in the Son of God is condemned already." Why? Because "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God", but "The wages of sin is death", whereas "The free gift of God is eternal life."

He saved us insofar as He paid the penalty.

When He rose again, it demonstrated that He truly IS the Son of God, showing that He IS able to save us.

The Bible says "If we DO sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ."

The Bible also says, "He who knew no sin actually became sin, so we could become righteous."

So, not only did He die FOR us, He died AS us.

I hope this helps.

Basically the punishment for sins is death and eternal seperation from God. The only acceptable alternative for this is for a perfect, sinless man to die as a sacrifice for the sins of mankind. Jesus was the perfect, sinless man who died for our sins and He also arose from the grave thus making it possible for us also to arise from the grave and defeat man. Jesus sacrifice paid the price for sins. Because of this we can be forgiven.

Very good question, Zag. I've had to ask this question myself. We know that Jesus made a way for salvation by dying on the cross--that's basic Christianity. But we're not sure how.

I've come to reject the idea that God required blood sacrifice, and that he needed to make a perfect blood sacrifice out of his son, as Abraham started to do. That makes God out to be bound to an irrational rule. Too, Jesus taught us that God requires love, not sacrifice.

Historically, Jesus faced a very tough choice. The Temple leadership wanted him dead, and coming into Jerusalem placed him at great risk. He could back down from his claim to be the Son of God, or he could stick with the truth and be crucified. It seems pretty clear to me that Jesus died for his own integrity.

C. S. Lewis explains an interesting but complex idea in Mere Christianity. God wants us to die to ourselves and take up his own life. We become more loving by sharing in his perfect love. We become more intelligent by sharing in his perfect intelligence. But we couldn't die to ourselves by sharing in his death--until the Son of God completely shared our humanity by his perfect death.

Tough ideas, and I'm glad you're wrestling with them. As to your final question, we know that answer. We are not automatically forgiven because Jesus died; as he taught us, we have to repent of our sins, which is like a little death in itself.

You sound sincere in your questioning and I hope that you find the help that you need.
By dying on the cross Jesus achieved redemption for all mankind. You see, our God is a covenant God. He made a covenant with Himself and us that if we believe in the blood of Jesus then we will be saved. Ever since the fall of man in Genesis we were separated from God. God is holy, perfect, and cannot look upon evil. But God loved us so much that He couldn't leave us that way and so He provided the perfect sacrifice for us....Jesus Christ.

His purpose for dying this way was so that all our sin was on Him. He died the most brutal death ever known, even still today. His body was no longer recognizable as a human body. By His stripes on His back from the whips, we receive healing. By His shame from being naked on the cross, we are delivered from shame. By His perfect and blameless life, we are righteous.

He saved us from our sins by being our scape-goat. When God looks at us, He sees Jesus instead. Jesus is our mediator. He has been through everything we will ever encounter, only He did it all without sin. Just as the whole world fell from one man's mistake, so the whole world is redeemed by one man's perfect sacrifice. God made it this way. All we have to do is believe.

To be saved from our sins means that we are free to make the right choice. You see, when Jesus ascended into heaven, His Spirit descended. The Holy Spirit inside of you gives you the opportunity to make Godly decisions. This is not to say that we never sin again....we are human and God knows we are but dust. However, we are free from the CURSE of the law. The CURSE of the law is death. We are free from this death, only by claiming the blood of Jesus.

Oh yes, we are completely free from our sins. The enemy has no hold on you no matter what mistakes you've made. You have faith in the blood of Jesus and it is accounted unto you for righteousness.

I pray that God blesses you even as your soul prospers. You don't have to be perfect and all-knowing for God to love you, He loves you just as you are right now. However, He loves you too much to leave you there. I pray that God draws you closer and closer to Him and as you begin to seek Him in your questions that you begin to go to Him for the answers. I pray that your spiritual eyes be opened to the truth and that you have a receptive mind. I pray that the Holy Spirit quickens inside of you and ignites a passion for knowing God that burns so hot that you have no choice but to seek Him day and night. I pray that God sends someone to you that will bless you and teach you in the things of God. Know that God loves you and is calling you into a relationship with Him. He stands at the door and knocks....will you open the door and let Him in?

WHEN JOHN THE BAPTIST, BAPTIZED JESUS HE ANNOUNCED THAT JESUS WAS THE LAMB OF GOD WITH TAKETH AWAY THE SINS OF THE WORLD. NOW PAY ATTENTION TO THE WORDS LAMB OF GOD. SO IF JESUS IS THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB WHICH TAKETH AWAY THE SINS OF THE WORLD, WOULDN'T HE SAVES US NOW. JESUS SAID I AM THE WAY,THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE, NO MAN COMETH UNTO THE FATHER, BUT BY ME.. AMEN JUST BELIEVE IT AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE THE FREE GIFT OF ETERNAL LIFE. ONE MORE THING JESUS IS GOING TO JUDGE ALL MAN KIND OF THEIR SINS . YOU NEED TO START TO READ YOUR BIBLE.
