Several of my friends who were raised non-Christian converted to Christianity. One is a pacifist and a social activist who felt very much at home with his new Christian community's dedication to the same principles. Another loved the beauty and depth of his chosen church's style of worship. Another was a musician who had worked for a church and found it so welcoming that he eventually joined. One person I know was a longtime non-believer, but over time came to feel that the Catholic Church was the right choice, and underwent the conversion process. There are many, many reasons why people convert to (or leave) Christianity. There are as many different stories as there are converts.

Picking out all the negative-sounding quotes to make something look worse than it is- not the best way to present an argument. If you actually picked up a book (not just the Bible; there are many books on the subject), you might see that there is much more positive than anything negative you could possibly find.

againstwindandtide.... Have you ever had a teacher whom wanted your pages which you had worked out problems on so she knows you didn't just copy a paper and actually did the work yourself?

OR

Have you ever known anyone whom just read the flyleaf of a book you had REALLY liked, and announced it to be "dumb" and wouldn't listen when you tried to tell them that they have to read the book to get the whole picture?

Have you ever tasted the cooking of someone whom hadn't done everything the recipee had listed that should be done?

Have you ever heard someone say it was a great touchdown and they were watching baseball?

Have you ever tried to do a project that you decided to skip some of the steps because it would take too long and then wondered why it didn't turn out the way it should have?

Don't have to be a Christian to be an "idiot".

May you find Truth and peace. :)

(i'm an Atheist to boot and my fiancee is a Christian. the two facets of our households are strict Christians, his extra so than mine possibly.) What i might in all hazard do is rejoice Christmas and Easter and stuff (I do, nevertheless.) yet in simple terms take it in a distinctive way and not the day of 'Jesus' beginning (Christmas). enable them to have faith this is all approximately Santa and flying reindeer.

Again I ask, why the specific bigotry toward Christianity? Why do you target on Christianity and not other religions? Do you fear what Muslims may do to you if you target Islam? What is the source of your hate? Do you have the courage to answer?

Why ?

for the human-contact acceptance as "one of us".

It's a personality-dynamic which is quite powerful, and there are often skillful people within Chiristian congregations who persuade with 'basic-emotion'. [familiar with the phrase: "fishers of men" ... ?]

Humanity evolved as a pack-animal, and "pack-membership" is a primal type of need.

"come to our house .. and be one of us" (Who)

the "scriptural" stuff is secondary ... the "group" stuff is primary.

just my opinion as a ex-group-member who had too many questions and "yes" read the Bible cover-to-cover several times.

present-day agnostic, relatively happy

You are free to make the choice you've made. You have no understanding of Christianity and you're obviously not interested in knowing more. I'm not going to call you an idiot like you called Christians. We all make our choices and we live with the consequences.

I guess you'd have to READ it and not go with what other people say about it. Heck, some people are even embarrassed to even look at it.

I think if one is seeking a spiritual path, there are many more healthier ones to explore, that aren't so dysfunctional.
