I wish I could cook, but thus far I tend to burn everything I try to make. Anyone have a good SIMPLE meal I can prepare to get my feet wet?

Harlot-Style Spaghetti
Spaghetti alla Puttanesca

SERVES 4

1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon Colavita™ Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1 small hot red pepper, slit
1 large clove garlic, minced
1 2-ounce tin anchovies, drained and chopped
1 pound ripe plum tomatoes, peeled, seeded, and chopped
1/4 cup capers, rinsed, dried, and chopped
1/2 cup chopped pitted oil-cured black olives
1/4 cup Dried Tomatoes in Olive Oil
1 pound spaghetti

In a large skillet, heat 1/4 cup of the olive oil over medium heat. Add the pepper and garlic and cook, pressing on the pepper with a wooden spoon, until the garlic begins to color. Remove the pepper and discard. Add the anchovies and swirl them in the oil until they begin to dissolve. Add the tomatoes, capers, and olives, and cook, covered, for 5 minutes more.

While the sauce cooks, puree the dried tomatoes with the remaining 1 tablespoon olive oil in a blender or food processor.

Add the tomatoes to the sauce and cook, covered, for 5 minutes. Turn the heat to very low to keep the sauce warm.

Meanwhile, bring 6 quarts of salted water to a boil in a large pot. Add the spaghetti and cook until al dente. Drain well and add to the sauce. Toss the spaghetti in the sauce and turn out onto a platter. Serve immediately.

Note: To peel tomatoes, drop them into a pot of boiling water for 2 minutes. Drain, cool, and slip off the skins.

try this one its my favorite. its easy when you master it invite your friends to join you. Enjoy.

You burn everything because you watch a pot and expect it to boil when it doesn't you walk away and forget it's on the stove. I had a sister in law who did this and the smell of burnt pots ....just horrible. Don't watch TV and cook. Put music on that inspires you. I like Opera but you can listen to anything you like.
Try this dish it's easy. Cappellini al checa. Boil water in a good size pot. Soup pot works. Buy a good angel hair pasta also known as cappelini. It cooks fast so boil the water first. Then add the pasta. It should cook in about 5 minutes. Use a fist full per person. If you have big hands go lightly on the amount. Cook for about 5 minutes till it seems a bit soft. Shut the burner off and let it sit for about three minutes. Poor it into a colander. If you use a good pasta pot they have a built in colander. You can just raise it up till your ready to use the pasta. You can re dunk it if it needs to be refreshed. Remember the reason most people fail at cooking is they have the wrong tools or no tools. You wouldn't screw with a hammer?
Now in a sauce pan. Use a larger 10" or 12" frying pan with Teflon or a stainless steel pan. Take garlic cloves ( you've seen Good fellows) Don't do that. Cut the clove that's one piece of garlic length wise and remove the core. That's the little green spine. This stops garlic breath from happening. Use a small pairing knife. Then if you can cut some Roma tomatoes up. If you are inept just buy some tomatoes in a can.
toss that and the garlic into the pan, but first put some Olive oil in the pan about maybe three table spoons. You can eyeball it. Then add the garlic then the tomatoes in quick sequence. Add a little chicken or vegetable broth about half a cup. Add a splash of white wine. Add capers. You buy them at the store and they are near the olives. Just add about a tablespoons worth. Mix this around in the pan and cook for about 3-5 minutes. It doesn't need much cooking. Put the Pasta into a serving pasta bowl and pour the sauce mixture over it. Chop some Italian parsley and fresh basil and sprinkle on top. You can add Parmigan cheese or Asiago cheese. Get it already grated. Good eating. It's cheap and easy to make.

You know, perhaps cooking just isn't your thing!!! Which is why God made take out! Anyway, if you want something simple but filling here are some ideas:

1. Tomato soup mixed with 1/2 cup milk. Add chopped up frankfurters, garbanzo beans, and cheese. Heat until franks are cooked and cheese melts. Serve with a green salad (prepackaged, of course)
2. Hot dogs and Scalloped potatoes: Purchase Au Gratin potatoes and prepare according to directions. Add chopped up hot dogs or kielbasa before baking.
3. Bacon Tomato Sandwiches: Purchase Rosemary Potato Bread and cut into 1/2 inch slices. Toast lightly and spread with mayonaise. Saute 10 slices peppered bacon until crisp but not burned and drain. Layer bacon with sliced tomatoes and lettuce if desired on bread and serve.

lol haha aw.
start out with something like fajitas, easy to make but yum

when im feeling lazy or tired, i make them. just grab some ground beef or some boneless chicken breast (cut it up into strips) and fry in a skillet with some oil , or you could even try marinating the meat in italian dressing for an hour beforehand.

grab some tortillas from the store, and any other toppings you want ( I use sharp cheddar cheese, onions, green/red peppers, salsa, sour cream, etc.)

While the meat is cooking, you can grate the cheese, chop up the veggies and put the toppings on the table.
Itll take you less than half an hour to make and theyre so yummy :) dont forget to spice it up with some taco or fajita seasoning mix as well . :)

Good luck lol

take a tortilla.

Spread a LITTLE butter or margarine on it.

Lay the tortilla, butter side down, on a fry pan. turn on heat about half way.

Put some shredded cheese around the heating tortilla.

When the cheese begins to melt, take that flat flipping tool (we call it a spatula) and fold the tortilla in half.

If you feel brave, flip what is left again.

remove with the spatula to plate.

cut in triangles.

voila! a quesadilla! Do that about 15 times, add a bowl of salsa and you have a party! Way to go!

Now, go buy a set of measuring cups and spoons, and some mixing bowls and wooden or plastic spoons for mixing. And at least two good cutting knives. Rachel Ray ads some good ones (Go to bed/bath/beyond)

then go to the library and borrow a couple easy cook books. go to the children's section if you prefer.

What? you haven't gone yet??? GO!

Egg Salad Sandwich
Boil 2 eggs for 10 minutes.
Let the eggs cool in the water they were cooked in by adding some cool water to the pot. When cool enough to handle, peel the eggs.
Chop the eggs
Add 1 Tablespoon of pickle relish (or dill pickles chopped finely if you don't have pickle relish on hand)
Stir in enough mayonaise to hold the eggs and the relish together....1 to 2 tbsp should do it.
Spread on white bread and top with 2nd piece of bread.
I started making this on Sunday afternoons after church when I was 12. It's a good starter recipe!

It is very hard to ruin this meal, and you can vary it by changing the types of veggies, seasoning, and meat. I'll give you the chicken version, but you can always substitute boneless pork chops, hamburger patties, or salmon.

Chicken in Foil

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. For each serving, place a boneless chicken breast in the center of a square of aluminum foil.

Season with your choice of:

Barbecue sauce, soy sauce, teryiaki sauce, or lemon pepper

Place any or all of the following around the chicken:

A few broccoli spears; a potato, peeled and quartered; a carrot, peeled and thinly-sliced; two or three whole mushrooms; slivers of green or red pepper; slivers of onion.

Dot the veggies with margarine, and season lightly with salt and pepper. Fold the foil up to form a tight packet.

Bake for 25-30 minutes or until chicken is cooked through and veggies are tender. (Pierce the chicken with a fork: if the juices are clear and the fork goes through the meat easily, it's done.)

To substitute boneless pork chops, use barbecue, teryaki, or soy sauce to season.

Hamburger: salt and pepper, Montreal steak seasoning; dry onion soup mix (a couple of teaspoons per burger); Worchestershire sauce

Salmon: butter and lemon juice melted together; butter mixed with dry dill weed; garlic butter.

These will give you plenty of options, and clean-up afterwards is a breeze.

Meatloaf - can't mess it up I promise.

1 lbs ground beef
10-15 crackers crushed up into little pieces.
2 eggs
1/2 cup bbq sauce
1 tsp italian seasoning
pinch of salt
a little pepper

Mix all of that together, and put into a pan, either a bread pan, or form into a bread loaf shape in tin foil lined pan. Bake for 45 mins at 350 degrees.

While you are at it, wrap large potatoes in tin foil and put in the over to back at the same time for baked potatoes.

Then about 5 mins before the meatloaf is done, microwave a can of green beans with a bit of butter and some crushed garlic for about 3.5 mins. Make sure there is a lid slightly covering the bowl.

Serve up and you are done.
