Both a Federal Law Enforcement Officers.

The FBI investigates a wide-range of crimes including, but not limited to, financial crimes, kidnapping, murder, money-laundering, etc...They also have an increased role in anti-terrorism post-911.

The US Marshals are, as someone else posted, officers of the court (Federal) and are tasked with court security, protection of Federal Judges and witnesses, and transport of Federal prisoners from one place to another (i.e. Prison to court, prison to prison). They are also tasked with recovery of Federal Fugitives...

Big difference.

The FBI is tasked with investigation of Federal Crimes. The US Deputy Marshal's are tasked with protection of federal courts, transportation of prisoners, serving warrants subpoenas, and other court orders.

Their jobs are totally different, it is like askinf what is the difference between a city police detective and a County Sheriff Deputy

The FBI & U.S. Marshall are under the Department of Justice the are of there on enity. Marshall track down bad guys, the FBI investigates possible bad guys...

Yes their jobs are similar,they are both under the Dept. of Justice. The FBI investigates all federal crimes including terrorism. The U.S. Marshals office is primarily the federal court systems law enforcement arm. They protect fed. judges, fed. witnesses, and hunt fed. fugitives down, and provide court security in fed. courts.
