Buy it self it won't but i was told buy a vet for puppies and kittens that are to young for chemical flea shampoos to mix dawn with apple cider vinegar that will kill fleas. But if the cat already has fleas. Then you need to bomb you house because they will be every where, in you carpet on the couch among any other places and if you just wash the cat it will kill the fleas on the cat, but they will just jump right of the carpet back on him.

If you put a few drops of Dawn dish soap in a bowl with water, then place it somewhere on the floor where kids and pets can't get to it. The fleas on the floor, rugs or where ever they are, are attracted to the sweet smell of the soapy water. They climb in and die. Only helps get rid of ones loose around the house and helps keep pets from getting fleas again. Any kind of dish soap will dry out the animals skin, then you'll have even bigger problems than just fleas. Good Luck.

Using Dawn will likely do nothing but firmly clean the fur that cats on their own wash themselves. It will dry out and irritate the skin, and just make it easier for the fleas to move around and like someone mentioned before, won't do much against the eggs. Use a flea medication, it will be best for the cat. Washing a cat should only happen if they are a breed that occasionally needs it, like a Cornish Rex, or if your cat happens to fall into something they shouldn't be injesting, like scummy pond mud or paint. And even then, Dawn shouldn't be used. There are pet shampoos for such an occasion.

Do not use dawn. It will not kill any fleas. We only bathe cats in Dawn when their owners apply too much or the wrong kind of flea medication to get it off. Do not use anything you can buy at a store. It is ineffective and you WILL waste your money and be dissatisfied.
Go to your vet and buy Advantage for your cat. It is the most effective and most gentle product for fleas for cats. It is approximately $15 per tube. Don't be cheap; by taking this animal in, you made a promise to take care of it. That includes financial responsibility.

Fleas can lay thousands of eggs in the course of their lifetime, and Dawn dish soap will do nothing to the eggs that have already been shed throughout your home (anywhere your cat goes). Flea dirt, loose eggs in the fur, and the fleas who cannot hang on will be washed away, but I would recommend at least three months of Frontline if you want to get them under control for real. The eggs in your home will hatch, and the fleas will continue to reproduce on your cat.

Dish soap will do nothing for fleas. She needs to be dipped by a vet before they reproduce more and take over your house. This is no time to be cheap!
What you may have heard is that Dawn is used to REMOVE Frontline from cats if owners accidentally apply dog Frontline to cats. Granted, they should be rushed to the vet (it makes them really ill), but Dawn is recommended to remove the oils of the Frontline.

i just bathed both of my cats in dawn today. it really works. i have used it for years. i actually prefer it over regular flea shampoo, because some flea shampoo causes my cats skin to turn red. for just a few fleas, dawn should do the trick. but, it would probally be best to get some flea drops as soon as you can. they sell an inexpensive pack of flea drops for cats at walmart. i think they are about 5 bucks, and they work too. bathe the cats in dawn first, then wait a couple days, then apply the flea drops.

I would use a flea shampoo. If it's just a few fleas you probably don't have an infestation yet. That being said, better to spend $10, 20, 50 now to nip the problem in the bud as opposed to hundreds of dollars to get your house fogged after the infestation has set in.

Dawn is 10% effective for getting rid of fleas. The remaining 90% is the dishwasher. Run a full cycle. To save money use the economy setting.
*note: this is not advisable on anything above a 12 pound cat*

Do not use any dish soap on animals! you don't have to get front-line but you do need to get a real treatment. Try Wal Mart, they have cheap shampoos and treatments that work. The dish soap won't hurt the fleas but it will leave your cat's skin uncomfortably dry and may poison her.
