Heaven will be better and happier then we can imagine.
The pain of hell will not be so much from the fire but from the
knowledge of what you have lost and seperation from God who made you and gave you a chance at life that you did not accept.

I don't think anything about them...or perhaps more accurately, I think a lot of things are possible. I accept that there is a "place" (in the loosest possible sense of the word) where God lives called heaven and I believe that there is a place that is separated from God. I also accept God's promise that his place will be a great place to spend eternity.

Re: the two thoughts you mentioned, I've also thought that the first sounds possible but the second seems a little too limited for me (and not all that "wondrous").

I've also thought heaven could be a little like Star Trek...roaming the galaxy learning new things and meeting other intelligent beings, transporting across the country or even the earth in a matter of seconds, food replicators that can make anything I want...sounds pretty heavenly to me (as long as there are no Borg out there).

As for hell, one thing that sounds hellish to me would be to be buried in a box for hundreds or thousands of years with your spirit still conscious waiting for a final judgment day when your spirit will be thrown into a lake of fire to be consumed (i.e., hell isn't necessarily eternal)! Another hellish thing would be to find that death leads you to a huge bus terminal where you wait for an eternity with everyone else that missed the bus for heaven! Could you imagine living in a bus terminal with a bunch of ticked off spirits forever (or even for more than a few hours!). Never been a fan of the "fire and brimstone" story...for me, in order of preference, I like it hot and humid (favorite) or hot and dry (second favorite)...anything cold comes in VERY distant third...so hell for me would be the Alaskan tundra times six not Miami on steroids!

For Christians, heaven is actually described in the book of Revelations, down to the palaces, the streets of gold etc. It is literally described as a real physical place.

The only descriptions of hell are literary devices in the bible. If one takes all of the literally, then one has a place of both darkness fire and eternal darkness. One also has to scratch one's head to try and understand how a spirit could be affected by fire - a physical thing.

Personally, it's not something I worry about it. I don't believe in hell, eternal torment. But I do believe that we will be held responsible for our wrong doings. There is a heaven, a resting place, where one is in G-d's presence. But I truly don't concentrate on that. Instead I work on living the gift of life that G-d gave me.

Heaven is actually hotter than Hell.

The temperature of Heaven can be rather accurately computed. Our authority is Isaiah 30:26, "Moreover, the light of the Moon shall be as the light of the Sun and the light of the Sun shall be sevenfold, as the light of seven days." Thus Heaven receives from the Moon as much radiation as we do from the Sun, and in addition 7 x 7 (49) times as much as the Earth does from the Sun, or 50 times in all.

The light we receive from the Moon is one 1/10,000 of the light we receive from the Sun, so we can ignore that.

The radiation falling on Heaven will heat it to the point where the heat lost by radiation is just equal to the heat received by radiation, i.e., Heaven loses 50 times as much heat as the Earth by radiation. Using the Stefan-Boltzmann law for radiation, (H/E)^4 = 50, where E is the absolute temperature of the earth (300K), gives H as 798K (525ºC).

The exact temperature of Hell cannot be computed. However, Revelation 21:8 says "But the fearful, and unbelieving ... shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone." A lake of molten brimstone [sulphur] means that its temperature must be at or below its boiling point, 444.6ºC.

We have, then, that Heaven, at 525ºC is hotter than Hell at 445ºC.

The gates of heaven and hell are identical and adjacent. I don´t remember who said that.
However, if the doors look the same... maybe the innards are identical too.
