think of it this way - would you let your 13 year old be home alone with 20 strangers? That's what you are allowing by letting her chat online -she's aloowing starngers into your home -some who may not be who they say they are - would you be comfortable with that?

In my opinion, yes. You are inviting tons of perverts to try to "trick" and "con" your kids into being their pals. And any kid who doesn't feel secure about themselves (and let's be honest- most of them don't if they're looking for friends online) is a target. Predators know exactly what to say even to the brightest and most aware kids to get them to open up. Our step-son is (and our other kids are) ALWAYS getting lectures on internet safety from us but he still got sucked in to someone SAYING they were a 13 year old girl (with a very provocative photo) and asking him a bunch of personal info- which he was all too eager to tell to this "beautiful girl" who was interested in him. It was clearly not a beautiful girl but probably some sweaty 40 year old man on the other end of the connection that wanted to lure him to the mall. We stepped in and cut it off. This all happened, by the way, while he was visiting his very vacant mother. We would have never allowed him to create a myspace page. Now we have to go back and undo what she did. If I were you, I'd keep my kids off myspace until they're old enough to make more mature decisions (17 or 18?) and until they're fully aware of the predators lurking online. Good luck.

That is up to the parents of the kids under 13 to decide. My niece has a myspace, she is 12. Her profile is set to private, only people she knows is on her friend's list.

I don't think chat rooms are safe for kids. They are too trusting and can easily be tricked. I personally do not think that a kid should be on the computer at that age without rules. You should be able to walk up behing the kid a be able to see what they are doing. If you do allow it then they should give you their password and username so you can make sure they are being smart. Definately use the private settings.

I wouldn't let my daughter, but kids on the internet should be 100% supervised regardless of the website they're on. There are just too many predators out there and too much inappropriate information. Their safety is our parental concern, with privacy being way down on the list.

No, it's not bad if you're child has common sense.
The site was made for people age 14 and up, though.
So he or she would have to lie about their age.
They might as well wait until they're 14.
For now let them stick to age appropriate websites=)
I'm sure there are blogging sites for kids their age..
maybe try googling it?

Personally I think that is way too young to be on myspace. She should be out playing with her friends and having fun instead of on her computer talking to complete strangers.

I would say no, unless you trust your child fully. If the trust is not there, then you will worry yourself sick about what your child is looking at and who they are talking to.
If you want any age-appropriate sites, then try out some of these:
