I'm just not ready to finish school as is expected from me, and then get some career that I may or may not have the rest of my life. I am in school and I work in the mortgage industry I like it, and want to have a career in it, but for some reason not right after I graduate. Is it odd that I want to finish school only to serve 4 years in the air force, or to join the air force and then finish school. I want to serve my country( i know there are more ways to do that then joining the military) I also want be in a new environment, I have lived in pretty much the same city around the same people. and I want a job that may or may not end up being my career but it will be a different experience I would not have had otherwise. I know there is a war going on so joining would make Iraq a possibility which doesn't scare me I just know that would be hard on my family. so any advice or alternatives, besides joining the peace corp first. I have thought about it already

It does not get more fun than college. You will never top the experience.

I do not recommend the peace corpse or anything like that but if you want to see the world there are many foreign service positions available of foreign countries.

Any one with a degree can teach English.

So, you would like a tax-free salary, free housing, insurance, paid relocation, travel options, retirement, free round trip air tickets, annual home leave, end of service bonus, etc. etc.

And you are searching for free "help wanted" ads on the Net.

HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND?
Yes, there are thousands of excellent openings all over the world but please do yourself a favor and stop wasting your time searching the Internet for "free" ads. Nobody is offering good contracts by email. So get ready for some homework!

One possibility I almost did was to go into those teaching programs (such as teach for america) if you feel like trying for a different lifestyle while making a significant difference. These programs also tend to take up about 2-3 years of your life as opposed to the standard 4-6 in the military. I also talked with a naval recruitment officer a little, but decided against the military due to my griefs against this war.

Right now im seeking employment, but somewhere preferably far from home. I kinda know how you feel with regards to wanting to get out, life can get dull when you've lived in state/town for all your life.

You talk of the Peace Corps. I like that idea much better than your joining the AIR FORCE. I served my country and they treated me like I was another disposable commodity. Don't join the military just because the thought of serving in IRAQ does not scare you. You join the military because you are committed to our Country's way of life and are willing to fight anyone to defend it. Would your death change the way that our society thinks? No, I say. In your community, everyone would miss you and be grateful of your sacrifice. Everywhere else, you're just another face and no one feels your absence.

The Military is a waste of precious time for you. If you want to help your country, get your Master's and a Teaching Certificate and become a Teacher. You need to interface with our young.

Do what is best for you. Join the armed forces if that is your desire. Many make that a career.

You will always regret it if you do not follow your instincts and your desires.

Reality and broken dreams creep into your life. Then you settle for less.
