I'm just getting off of effexor and am having horrible withdrawal symptoms. Does anyone know how to counteract these symptoms without going back on them?

I have experienced the same thing. I came off of 150mg daily of Effexor at one point cold turkey. I had to go back on. I was experiencing dizziness and some other withdrawal symptoms that were pretty bad. I had to go to the E.R. at one point and they had to pump me with some fluids. I hope your Doctor did a slow reduction in dosage instead of just getting off of it. With these drugs, you can't do that. Your body can't take the stress of it. It seems these things cause more trouble than their worth in the long run. I look forward to the day I can come off but it will be a step by step reduction in the amount of mg's before I can get fully off.

I'm in an unfortunate situation as well. I have been taking 37.5 mg per day for three years. I have just decided to go cold turkey and(even with the low dose) it has not been easy. the first day is not too tough the second(this is as long as I have gone) is horrible. So I am now on a routine that has me taking one pill every third day and hope to continue to lengthen the gap. with the 37.5mg there really isn't any other way to reduce the dose?? that i know of. One thing that I believe has begun to help me with the symptoms is Accupuncture and some chinese herbs. If you believe it or not just the relaxation of the acupunture is worth the 50 bucks for the visit. Try it. not an end all but helps.

I had the SAME problem. I have tried several times to taper off slowly and am now only taking 75mg daily. I am too scared to cut back any further. My doctor advised me to alternate : with 37.5mg tablet, then 75mg the next day, so on until I could just take the 37.5 mg daily for a few weeks. AND then cutting that in half every other day. Good luck. talk to your doctor if you can.

nope, withdrawal is withdrawal. The only way to avoid such symptoms is with a very slow taper.
