20 years ago there were no internet nor e-mails, just letters and expensive phones....
So if somebody whom you haven't seen 20 years e-mails you is just great!
Technology eventually brings people closer to each other. For example I live in South America whereas my family stayed in Europe. If it were not for Skype (God Bless) how could I help my kids with homework efficiently. Now I can do it.

Injoy in the reopend correspondence but without any great expectations whatsoever, you know .... 20 years ...is a lot of time.

God Bless You!

I try not to get shocked by anything. It would be out-of-the-ordinary, to be sure. So, yes, it would be strange as it don't happen all dat often. Of course, I would have to wonder what kind of impact I had on that person that they would even remember me after so long a time and have the desire to contact me now.

I think it would be great to find out that they remembered you after all this time.

We recently got a call from our son who we haven't heard from in 30 years due to a divorce. Perhaps your friend also felt that time was passing and he needed to reconnect.

Not if we left the friendship on good terms, and just drifted apart. If we had a negative incident and parted ways it may be odd, but if we just lost touch it wouldn't be strange, and in fact may be quite nice.

I'm always happy to hear from someone from my past. I think it's great, the good thing about e-mail to is you don't get them at a bad time and they can take their time getting back to you.

I think it would be great.
Had a friend do that several years ago. We lost track of each other once out of school. We met for dinner several times, it was wonderful.

I would be thrilled if someone I hadn't communicated with in years was able to locate and e-mail me, unless they were strange to begin with...........

Strange yes. If you like them, reply them, if not, don't.
