I just bought second hand a Canon A540 Digital Camera on Ebay... I was told that the lens stuck out, but that didn't affect the camera's ability to work. I called Canon and they tell me to send it in to them without saying how much it could end up costing. Is there a simple fix to this, or do I need to file a complaint with Ebay for getting a broken camera??

First, email the seller and explain the problem. Ask for a full refund, including shipping. The nicer you are the better. If that doesn't work, file a Dispute with ebay.

In the future it might be best if you asked in here before buying. You could also check at shutterbug.com and see if they have reviewed the camera you're considering.

You should file a complaint with eBay about the seller ONLY if the camera is not functioning, because you mentioned that you were told ahead of time that the lens does not retract but it doesn't affect its function.

You probably will not be able to fix it yourself, so either send it to Canon or find a Canon Authorized repair shop to get it fixed. What happens when you send it to Canon or the repair shop is that they'll take a look at it and give you an estimated cost for fixing it. If you approve, they'll need a credit card number. If you don't approve it, they'll ship it back to you. So if you send it to Canon and don't get it fixed, you'll just lose the shipping fee. To avoid this fee, take it to a repair center.
