I'll just give one idea and hopefully you'll get a few more.
Get 2 netted canopies like this one from Target.

Then get get fake flowers from any craft store in whatever your color scheme is. Sew the flowers on to the canopy in whatever arrangement you wish, but I suggest putting lots of flowers at the top with fewer and smaller flowers at the bottom. That way, it will look like it's raining flowers on you.
Hang them over your beds and you're done.

When my sister and I were that age, we included in our bedroom scheme very large bulletin boards. That really helped us put up pictures of our friends, music posters, stuff we liked, etc., without destroying the walls. Also, it kept our stuff in "our place" as not to impose on the other. I have seen these huge bulletin boards at Target and many other stores. Hope that helps. As far as using the sewing machine goes, you can make some really cool curtains. They don't have to be complicated, and you can sew the top so that they can go on rods. You can pick your favorite material at any fabric store. This will help your parents, because curtains can be very expensive. If you are super handy with the sewing machine, you can also make little matching pillows to go with the curtains. Maybe a funky psychodelic flower theme? Good luck!

I think pink and orange in large amounts would be a bit much unless you use pastels.
I think a nutral collor like cream on the bottom half of the wall, a chair rail in the middle and a light pastel pink on the top of the wall would look good.
As for a sewing project you could make pillow shams or something in a light orange.

how about adding a screen or devider in your room to individualize your space as well as add privacy. you can make deviders easily with wood or an old tri fold door that you could paint. or you can purchase a devider that has slots to hold pictures and stuff. You could even add pockets made from fabric to hold papers and things. you and you sister can each decorate your side of the devider to make your own. you can probably find more ideas at a craft store. Have fun with your creativity.

!] first, find a comforter in the colors you like - suggest more of a rose and cantelope colors vs. bright orange and hot pink.
2] Or, buy the same solid comforter in rose, and one in cantelope. The person with a rose bed gets a cantelope wall alongside it; and the cantelope bed gets the rose wall along side it. Since both heads of beds would be on same wall, paint that one in rose/cantelope stripes and foot of beds wall too ]
3] get windows in a combo of same colors - rose with cantelope valence/cantelope with rose valence; combo of sets of skinny [ 24" wide ] sheers in rose/cantelope/rose/cantelope, instead of one wide curtain to fit entire window.
4] add neutral rug [ ivory, beige ] and ceiling.
5] Include the rose/ cantelope colors in small accessories: throw pillows, candles, ornaments.
6] Suggest you pick one common color and material for art framing - brass/chrome, oak/walnut, colored enamel.
7] use the frame colors for other accesories like lamps, candlesticks
CRAFTS:
1] eucalyptus wreath with flowers in room colors
2] beaded wall hanging[s]
3] quilts/pillows/stuffed letters for decor
4] paint very small to small flowerpots in room colors - use on dresser, desk to hold small items

Pink & orange look great in a girl's room. Take a look at these photos for some decorating ideas:
