You can never install older versions of Windows over a newer one.

Wipe the drive completely- Reformat the drive, or delete the XP partition then do a full install of Windows 2000- of course all of your existing data will be lost, so copy your important documents, photos etc onto CDs or an external drive first.

This means you'll need a full Windows 2000 CD, not an upgrade one.

Wow! Who said HP can't make reliable computers! Your notebook was first produced in 2000! PIII up to 700MHz or celeron 550, 64 or 128MB RAM (Max512, PC100 SDRAM),14.1" or 15" XGA. Some even came out with Win95 - options were 95,98,2000. The original 18GB hard drive is still working (the other option was 5GB)! Basically if your system doesn't have at least 256MB of memory it won't take windows XP. Even if it has enough memory, it will be sloooowww on Windows XP.

Install Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 on your XP then install Windows 2000 on the Virtual Drive. Works great provided you have minimum 512 RAM

why you would ever want 2000 instead of XP i'll never know. it's worse in about every way. just keep xp. you only have 1.4 gigs on your HD left? um, uninstall programs, throw old files away, back them up, wait til you have 10 gigs of space, then you can reformat the drive when you install the 2000

10 pts please
