He is 2.5 years old approx, I got him from the shelter. Since my son started walking I've put up safety gates etc. I just want him to be happy and healthy and I am beginning to worry about him.

EDIT TO GIVE MORE INFO:
my son is still cruising and walks in bare feet and has not stepped on the dog, nor yanked on him. He is 10 months old and isn't that mobile yet. the dog seemed to get spooked once the gates went up and my son started pulling up.

maybe your son does something that the dog doesn't like. small children will do things to animals and not realize that it might hurt or frighten. maybe the dog had previous experience with small children and was hurt. help the dog know that your son is no threat and won't hurt him. also teach your son that he has to be gentle with the dog.

Have you ever been stepped on by baby shoe? That hurts. Maybe the dog is confused and afraid of the kid.
