They are the same religion -Christianity, but Baptistim would predate Catholisism because it was influenced more by John the Baptist
*Catholisism is like alcoholism it only makes sense when you're drunk.
Read your bible peeps, his name was John the Baptist not John the Catholic!
Oh don't stop now, I have yet to reach my thumbs-down quota for the day. Here let me help you..."slippier than soap, its pope on a rope."

Catholic. Baptist is a PROTESTANT denomination. That means they protested against catholicism and broke away.
Additional comments:
The Catholic tradition says Peter was the first Pope. We know that Peter was considered the chief apostle, but as far as pope is concerned all we have is Catholic tradition. We know that after the apostles had been martyred that various cities had bishops and that as late as Constantine there was arguing among bishops about different points of doctrine and no central authority in the Christian Church. It was Constantine who called the council at Nicea to try to get a consensus on the doctrines and make a standard canon of scripture.. it was even later than that the bishop at Rome gained power and became the most prominent.bishop. It was about that same time that there was a split in the eastern and western orthodoxy. It was, therefore several hundred years before there was an actual Roman Catholic church similar to what we have today. It was that way for almost a thousand years before the printing press was developed and versions of the bible were translated into the common languages and circulated. The differences between what the scriptures taught and what Catholic Tradition said became apparent. This is among other things, was what brought about the Protestant reformation and the supreme authority among the denominations became the scriptures rather than the pope.

Between those two it was Catholic which began with the Apostles after the first Pentacost after Jesus went to Heaven.
The Baptists were called Anabaptists in 1535, but the first Baptist congregation started in the beginning of the 17th century, then it got divided and divided as people disagreed on things to believe. The first American Baptist Church was founded by Roger Williams around 1639.

Roman Catholic religion traces it's history back to Peter and the Apostles. During the Reformation, various people pointed out problems in the Catholic church and urged reform. Up to that time there was only one Christian church. With the lack of reform, various groups splintered from Catholicism and various denominations were born. Baptists were one of the later reformation movements.

They are both the same religion, which is Christianity. However, they are two different denominations of Christianity.
Catholicism is the original Christianity, Baptist developed centuries later, after the Reformation.

Roman Catholic.
It was the only Christian church after Jesus was ressurected and taken up into heaven.
The Church has what is called "apostolic succession" -- that means that the current pope is in a direct line with the first pope: St. Peter, whom Jesus made head of the church Himself.
I once heard Baptist friends tell me that their church is just as old as the Catholic Church, because they are directly descended from John the Baptist. This can't be proven and even if it were true, that would make them worshippers of John the Baptist, not Jesus.
Google "anabaptists" and see what information you get.

Catholics came first, then the Protestants - they protested against the catholic church (in form of Lutherans - think Martin Luther) came after!! baptists, methodists, etc are all part of Protestants who are a sect of Christianity (with the catholics)

Catholic. While some suggest that the Baptists came from John the Baptist, this was his title. I doubt that any true Church was in hiding, saving the faith, for over 1000 years.

If you are a Baptist, you owe the tenets of your religion to John Smyth, who began it in Amsterdam in 1607
If you are a Roman Catholic, Jesus Christ began your religion in the year 33 and made Peter the first Pope
