#1. It's pigmentation, you can't take it off.
#2. There are ways to fade the pigmentation in those areas, I know, but I don't know of what sorts of things that would work.
#3. You sound really rude saying that. A lot of people have that and just because you don't want you're friend looking "gross" doesn't mean you have to put her on blast. If she read this she would probably be upset about it.

I think it is rude to say to someone you don't even know that comment when all they're trying to be is nice. I don't understand why it bothers you. I could understand if it is someone you come in contact with frequently, and isn't exactly the nicest person. But that's not the case. It shouldn't be a big deal to your white friends either, because they've opened up to someone who is different from them already, and they should open up to cultures different from them as well. You shouldn't close yourself into a box where you can only tolerate the people who are inside your bubble, because that's what creates ignorance. Would you be embarrassed if you were Spanish and other Latinos came up to you and started speaking to you in Spanish. You're culture is only trying to connect with you.

hi pepper, u described ur friends skin as dark and leathery at the back of her neck and elbows. this is the exact symptom of acanthosis nigracans . please check the links are article below:
http://dermnetnz.org/systemic/acanthosis-nigricans.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acanthosis_nigricans
AN is quite common and presents as a symmetric brown-black thickening of the skin that gradually becomes leathery or velvety in appearance. The most common sites are the neck, underarms, chest, knuckles and cheeks. There are usually no symptoms (such as itching). By many it is often confused as dirt on the skin, and constant scrubbing either causes no change or worsens the condition.
There are several causes of AN. The majority of cases are associated with obesity. I often see this condition in overweight young girls who are otherwise healthy. Heat combined with moist folded areas of skin causes a discoloration. AN is rarely hereditary and is often associated with hormonal problems. The skin changes can occur at birth or during childhood and worsen during puberty. Certain drugs, such as nicotinic acid, can cause AN. AN can also be a sign of diabetes or cancer.
First, determine the cause of your case of AN. Make an appointment with your doctor. He or she will run a series of blood test as well as other examinations to determine whether there are any medical reasons for AN. For the majority of cases, obesity is the cause, thus weight loss is the key.
The areas of darker skin should not be scrubbed; this will only irritate the skin. Topical creams containing lactic acid (Lac Hydrin, Amlactin), retinoids (Tazorac, Retin A, Differin), urea (Vanamide, Carmol) and glycolic acid help to exfoliate and smooth the skin. While topical corticosteroid and 4% hydroquinone containing products (Glyquin, Lustra & Triluma) are helpful in returning the skin to its normal color.

Try using a buffing cream, it takes off dead skin and makes your skin softer. What the problem may be, I don't know. But that is one suggestion.
