Pinpin understands perfectly well. You are the gods of the territory, but the territory belongs to chestnut, and pinpin knows it. The gods dropped little pinpin in heaven, and she was thrilled. But Chestnut owns heaven, and when he jumped over, he was speaking to pinpin, asserting not just dominance, but ownership. That was why pinpin cringed. Had you not been there, he would have driven her off.

The one being new to domestication and the other being an old hand at it is irrelevant. They were reacting to each other as cats in relationship to territory, and that would have been the same interaction in a barn or an alley.

These two cats need to work this out for themselves in many ways, because the ultimate arrangement they settle in to will depend to a great extent on their individual personalities. But the idea of bringing Pinpin in and sharing this space with her, but then having another family member distract (and reassure) Chestnut with catnip or a toy or an elegant ear-tummy scratching really is a good strategy. He may hiss at pinpin, or even raise his paw at her. But if he runs her off, you should give him a spray with the water bottle or water pistol, and then retrieve the cowering pinpin, and re-incorporate her into the family. She has a right to be there.

Chesnut just may end up being the dominant cat in the household if Pipin is shy and timid. She may be jealous of attention directed toward him instead of her. The trick is to be patient with both of them. Continue to give Pipin gentle loving attention, and make sure Chesnut doesn't feel left out either. If she gets bratty with him, discipline her and don't let her get away with it. Hopefully he will eventually feel more comfortable and they will get along.

Afraid it is all down to patience.
A semi-feral cat CAN be introduced into a household and can even become friends with any cats already there - but just bear in mind that their main directive in life is to look out for danger to No.1 - and that is exactly what Pipin will be doing.
Just be calm and patient - don't completely disallow fights - they are necessary to establish dominance - but be ready during the initial introduction to step in & stop too much bloodshed!

Good luck!!

ok i work in a pet suplies store and know everthing there is to know about animals. chesnut is always in there and gets all the atention it is her teritry and will defend it at any cost. by bringing pipin in pipin trespased on her teritry. the puring was probably teezing in the sence he was saying im getting your attention. what you need to do is introduce her slowly and give them both treets but feed chestnut first and give her slightly more. also give chestnut slightly more attention this way she feels in charge of her teritry again and they shouldent fight.

cats will always if not sometimes react like this when another cat takes over their favourite spot. in a way you could say its territorial. don't worry about it too much this happens. your cats will understand and teach other who is who. As long as their know that you are the dominant one the shouldn't be a problem. make sure your there to comfort them and tell them that is OK if things start to get a bit "jealous". play with them together and they will learn to live together.

its normal for two cats to be like that. My 2 cats are just the same way. They both need to get used to each other and they'll realize that it will be safe to stay in the same room with each other.

Pipin is semi feral so he doesn't quite understand. He is just territorial. I think time with them spent together and sprayin the naughty one with water might help.

perhaps pipin is smaller than chestnut, and he thought chestnut was coming at him.

sit wit both of them, they need to get use to each other. play with them at the same time or give them treats at the same time, something to get them use to the other.
