Police Divers Searching the Water Under Bridges in Major Urban Centers?!?

Someone told me recently that in major cities in the U.S., police divers occassionaly search for tossed guns, drugs and other items of interest on a regular basis. Any truth to this?

No. Who would have the funding for their time, training and equipment? There would have to be a good reason to send them into the water, not just casual trolling for whatever they could find.
