If the USGA won't allow Casey Martin to use a cart, why don't they step in and prevent public courses from mandating the use of carts?

I'm not saying everyone has to walk, but if you want to walk and play, you should at least have the option.

It wasn't the USGA not allowing him to use the cart. It was the PGA, not allowing cart usage is how PGA golfers maintain an air of athletism, this was actually said in Casey's lawsuit.

People who play on public courses do so for recreation. Casey Martin was playing profesionally and fatigue is an issue in the pro's game . The PGA was right to insist on walking like everybody else,in the end he could not handle the tour with or without the cart.

Courses require carts to speed up play and pack as many people on the course at one time as possible. If the same amount of people were playing and nobody had a cart, a single round would probably take over 6 hours.

I like to walk the course as much as the next guy, but you have to be realistic. If you want to walk you better have a 1 pm tee time on a Tuesday, or play at an unpopular course.

Most courses mandate the use of carts especially on weekends during peak tee times to keep up the pace of play and allow as many tee times as they can book. Some golf courses are so spread out that it would take you too much time to walk between holes.A lot of the courses that I play will allow walking during off peak hours. Plus, what other sport can you drink and drive?!

well, many courses would be an impossible walk, well not impossible but it would slow play incredibly, a course i play at is in the mountains and makes you take carts, some of the rides in between holes is one mile uphill, and i know there are extreams at other courses, so the only pratictal thing for courses to do in situations like that is to force the use of carts

I walk but the idea is to speed up play, I guess. I hate to have to take a cart. It also is a big money maker for courses.
