this kid on youtube is doing this charity where he has a swear jar and fills it with change for each swear he says. He encourages other people to make their own jar.

The goal is to raise money for "Homes for our troops" which makes houses tailored to the needs of disabled veterans.

Personally I think it's great and people should donate. But I want to know if you've heard of it and what you'll do now that you have.

the direct charity(the link is also posted on the video)
http://www.homesforourtroops.org/site/TR?px=1068401&pg=personal&fr_id=1070

it's not about supporting the war, it about supporting the troops.

WSIDR- hey man, don't be mad at me that you're running low on WSIDs.

but you can donate to "Homes for heroes"
that's what you should do

MODEMDOWN- that's not the point. they served their country and now are disabled. they can't do anything and the country they were injured in defending won't help them.

that's like your boss cutting off your hands then firing you without sevrence.

yahoophoenix- i'm sorry. that's so terrible.

but this isn't giving on the street, this is a legit charity that builds homes for disabled vets

btw, that's not me in the videos. I didn't come up with this idea.

P- if you don't want to give your money to injured soldiers, so be it.

I saw a man in shabby clothes standing at an intersection with a sign that said "Will work for food. Disabled Vet stranded. Homeless. Please help. God Bless.".. Just so happens that I was on my lunch breakcoming from McDonalds after getting 2 cheeseburgers and a coke with the money I scraped up before my payday... I reached out and offered one of the cheeseburgers to the "homeless" man, to which he made a face and said in a most unpleasant tone "What the F*uck am I gonna do with that!?". Another time in my life when I had no money , a homeless man in front of a liquor store approached me and asked for a buck... I said that I am broke. He said that it was fine because he was ready to leave anyway. Apparently he made over $300 that day and ahad a wad of cash to prove it. Ever since then, I do not give on the street but only to a select group of legitimate charities.

By the way, if the government wouldn't steal/"lose" our tax dollars in Iraq, our vets would be taken care off.

Yeah I've heard about the swear jars, I've never heard about them going for the troops. This is an awesome idea. Just absolutely awesome. and to some of the people who answered this question.. even if you don't swear, you should still send money, clothes, non-perishable food items. Our soldiers need us. You never know when your loved one[s] could get sent, and then what? You're automatically going to support them? Think ahead, this is someone else's loved one[s]. God bless you for this question.

While it may be a 'good idea,' I don't think it would work for EVERYONE ... but I will 'note' the link to the charity and will probably give to that the next time my husband and I are deciding which charities to give to. We actually 'learned about this organization' through Extreme Home Makeover when they did a house for a returned vet ... but this is a 'good reminder' that vets come home 'disabled' all the time ... even when we don't have 'wars' to injure them.

It seems a little odd though that the money that they will be receiving comes from a magnitude of swear words...why not just make a normal donation? Oh well, if it works for him then it works, right?

Sorry, no can do. I don't swear, therefore there will be no money to give to the cause. I think it's a great idea though. Maybe people will stop swearing when they realize the vast amounts of money they are going to lose. Gotta love America's vocab! It's gonna help a lot of people!

I don't swear much either so I just went ahead and made a direct donation as well. Great idea, and for a very worthy cause.

You know what? I have a swear jar at work too! I organize all our charitable (as in tax deductible) charities and activities, so I'm going to research this through the office. Thanks for the tip.

Sounds good. Antything to support the troops that sacrifice so much for our country.

That's really cool. And it's gonna bankrupt me in about three days. I suppose I could go cash in my loose change jar and donate that. I'd be getting off cheap!
