What you have a picture of is a pinch collar.

NOW.

I've taught obedience for 30+ years. For all of you complaining about these collars. #1 - Have you ever used one? #2 - Did a qualified obedience instructor showed you the PROPER way to use one? #3 - How many dogs have YOU personally trained, or had in an obedience class?

I've trained 15 of my own dogs. I've used Haltis, buckle collars, choke collars AND pinch collars. I've had close to 3,000 students at Northwest Obedience Club (outside Chicago) and Fox Valley Dog Training Club (outside Chicago). My current dog is trained with a pinch collar and the slightest pressure is all that is needed. At that level, there is NO pinching, just pressure.

Given the PROPER use of pinch collars, they are extremely effective AND are not painful to the dog. NOTE, I said when used properly!

Back to the question.

When used properly this collar will not hurt your dog. As with ANY collar, if you DON'T use it properly you can hurt your dog.

Don't let the PETA freaks totallly influence your decision! You know how she pulls and how hard it is to control her. My advice would be seek professional help. There is no magic collar that will stop her behavior. It will deter it by forcing negative consequences (pain). A little obedience work with a trainer will help. If thats not in your budget, you may try a book on obedience training. If chokers don't work, this collar probably won't do alot either. What she needs is behavior modification, not punishment.

Teach her to walk politely on a leash, rather than punishing her with a chain collar. In the mean time, invest in a walking tool that helps keep her from pulling - e.g. no-pull harness, Sensation harness, gentle leader (I'm no fan of gentle leaders, but they do work with some dogs), etc. Take a basic dog obedience class and you will learn loose-leash walking. Be sure to choose someone who uses only positive reinforcement. Good luck.

No chain collars because if the dog pulls too hard or jumps this sort of collar can break the dogs neck. More appropriate would be a harness such as the gentle leader easy walk harness which you could get at any petsmart. This will hold him and prevent pulling without risking injury to the dog.

Watch the dog whisperer. You can't pull back on your dogs collar that will just make her/him (not sure which and you say both) pull harder. YOu need to make sure that the collar is right below the ears around the neck, not down lower where their neck is stronger. and make sure that you pull to the side not straight back.
I have 3 labs and walk them at the same time (140lbs woman) and they are 120, 100, and 50 lbs. I have not many problems walking all of them and we live in a pretty busy neighborhood!

Good luck

That will not make your dog look cooler by any means. Do you think having metal spikes pulled into your neck would feel nice? Not at all. I would never use any type of choker on my dog. Try a halti, they are alot more affective, and not as harmful to the dog. If you can control the face of the animal you have total control, same concept with horses.

They make a collar that goes around the dogs shoulders to limit the pulling. Go to a pet store and ask them about it, and they'll show you. Then you won't have to worry about your dog getting hurt.

How old is he? What do you do with our chockers to stop him from pulling.. Do you pull back? if so, that is why it is not working.. Snap the leash and then release the pressure, you may have to do it over and over and over again, but it will get better in time. It does no good to just pull back, the dog is prob. stronger then you are anyways, and it's bad mannors. Make him walk shoulder to shoulder with you, if he isn't, then snap his leash until he does. It is to get his attention, and respect.. not hurt him, which that collar may.

You need to make sure that the choker chain is high up on the neck and right behind the ears. Worn too low and the dog pulls.
