Just as Jesus was persecuted for His faith, preaching, teaching, healing, etc., we will be persecuted for such things too. Jesus is saying that He was doing the work of God, God the Father, and He did it before unbelievers could put a stop to Him. Believers in God are ridiculed and attempts are being made more and more to stop a Christian for doing Christian type works. Just look at the R&S section for verfication of what I'm talking about. Aslo, recall the desire to have Christian Christmas displays taking down. Christian wording and photos taken out of public places? No praying in public schools and at some public events. The day is coming when Christians will be tried for their belief, they will try to shut a Christian up and cause the Christian pain. I think this verse means to go about Christian conduct while you can...before it's too late. I think you can see, it's already started.

Hi opinionated! I trust all is well with you. Nice Avatar. Good question.
This particular text suggests urgency. The time is short, and the work to be done is much. The workman appear to be indolent, but the reward is much. The master of the house appear to be insistent about accomplishing the task at hand.
For Jesus the night was not far away. His brief "day" was the time of his ministry here on earth. He knew he would be betrayed into the hands of sinners. He knew he would died a cruel death. Therefore, he set out early to fulfilled his mission on the earth prior to his death.
I hope this helps.
Have faith dear friends in God

There are two meanings. Jesus talked in statements that the common people would understand but had a deeper meaning for those who can see and hear a more lofty meaning. Jesus was healing a Bind man perhaps on the day of the Sabbath. No one was able to work from 6 o'clock Friday night to 6 am Saturday morning during the Sabbath. So he was saying that he must heal this man before darkness falls.
Also for those who could understand his higher meaning, he was saying that he was the light of the world and soon he would not be there to help people and it will be as they were in darkness because he was the light of the world.

Jesus was speaking of himself and the works Jehovah sent him to do, and said that he must do them while it was day and before night came, for when night fell he would not be able to work. He also spoke of being a source of enlightenment as long as he was in the world, implying that the time would come when he would make an exit. His death removed him from the world, put him out of existence, plunged him into the darkness of the grave. It was as a time of night for him, a time when he could do no work.

What did Jesus mean when he said: “The night is coming when no man can work”? (John 9:4)
Jesus was here referring to the time when he would go into the grave and would no longer be able to perform the marvelous works that he had performed while alive.
There is only a very limited time left for the present wicked system of things. Now more than ever before, a true Christian needs to exert himself to follow Jesus’ example and walk in his footsteps. His life course on earth clearly demonstrated what was of greatest importance to him. He said: “We must work the works of him that sent me while it is day; the night is coming when no man can work.” (John 9:4) By saying that the night was coming, Jesus was referring to the time of his trial, impalement, and death, when his earthly ministry would end and he would be unable to engage in the works of his heavenly Father.
True, during his three-and-a-half-year ministry, Jesus spent some of his time performing miracles and curing the sick. Nevertheless, he used most of his time to preach the Kingdom message and to “preach a release to the captives” of false religion. (Luke 4:18; Matthew 4:17) Jesus put earnest effort into his ministry and also took time to train his disciples so that they could build on the foundation he had laid and effectively continue with the preaching work. Jesus seized every opportunity to promote Kingdom interests and wanted his disciples to do the same thing.

I think it means that all of us have to get to work doing what God put us here for. We are called as "lights to the World". There is so much to do before the Lord returns. We will be responsible for the works we do and the words we say. Our world is the question, and CHRIST is the answer!

3"Neither this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus, "but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life. 4As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. 5While I am in the world, I am the light of the world."
----------------------------
Jesus was speaking to His deciples - it means that Jesus had much work to do - for He knew of the time when He would be going back to heaven (John 14: 1 - 4) and would not be here to perform more miracles and help people.

you're asking a loaded unfair question. Kerry for my section would say outrageous issues yet he won't be a presidential candidate returned. i've got faith that the Democratic social gathering helps our courageous provider adult males and repair women human beings. they have questions with regard to the conflict and our clarification for having it. Democrats as a collection are actually not unpatriotic. I guess lots of infantrymen in Iraq have family who're Democrats. I actual have a question. Why do the elite in American society; Democrat and Republican not have their little little ones serving interior the middle east? Why do not CEO's have their little little ones serving interior the middle east? think of approximately Israel. A prominant anti conflict activist in Israel lost certainly one of his sons in Lebanon. His different son served and quickly his daughter would be drafted. He would not think of that conflict is justified, yet is patriotic to his us of a and keen to settle for that his little ones have a countrywide accountability to fullfill. Hizbollah found out that Israel cares approximately its little ones and could be unwilling to attack if it ability that they are going to go through their deaths. Hizbollah believes that persons can come across a reward interior the subsequent international and if lots of Lebanese are killed its not a situation. in reality its a competent situation politically. we can lose the conflict in Iraq for 2 motives. One is that we are a humane those that attempt to circumvent the dying of innocents and which ability we can defang our troops. the 2nd is with the help of the fact the folk who make the suggestions approximately our rules do not would desire to complication with regard to the secure practices of their very own little ones because of the fact they are actually not those struggling with. while Israelis make a protection rigidity or coverage determination approximately attacking an purpose or not if their determination is to attack than the result must be very very own.

It's dark at night. You can't get a whole lot done in the dark, can you?
Obviously that's different now that we have electricity! Working at night is certainly not a sin, in case that's what you were getting at.
Edit: haha okay I just answered what first popped in my head. I read the question literally, but Chriszchris read it metaphorically. He's probably right. But my answer makes sense to though, right?

To me it means - It's God's will to help those we can. Jesus had a mission to complete in his life (day) on earth before his death (night)
