The F-35 is unliked because its a new design in time it will prove its self as a very good strike fighter, due you think most Americans were thrilled when the F-22 was replacing the F-15? They werent but its an excellent aircraft and its starting to grow on most of us. If you think the Australians are going to buy the F-22 instead there are a couple of things wrong with than plan.

#1. The US is not exporting it to anyone (the biggest reason)

#2. At 150 million an aircraft (without spare parts) its unlikely Australia can afford it.

Learn to lik the F-35 and the Superhornet because they are what your going to have in the future you may as well support them.

To the due that thought it was a mistake to replace the german leapard tanks with A-1 Abrams I like to know were you get they are all get blown up in iraqi to date some have been damaged but none have been totally destroyed in battle. At least check you stats before making dumb comments.

Oh that reporter is clueless.

I like hos he says it's a "Top Secret" project, yet half the world has known about it and he was given a chance to see it. Yeah, real top secret.

The F-22 and F-35 use virtually the same avionic systems and extremely similar design. The capabilities and effectiveness of the F-22 should count towards the credibility of the F-35 also.

Oh and $15 billion for 100 planes?! That's not that bad for such a hot piece of technology. Especially how they are still using F-111s. The USAF decomissioned their F-111s a while ago.

Its not an air superiority fighter, its a carrier-capable fighter-bomber, like the F-18 the Aussies are replacing. If they want both strike and air superiority capabilities, they will have to buy both the F-22 and F-35.

The Australians are a proud and nationalistic people. They do not appreciate stuff not made in Australia. They appreciate stuff that they manufactured themselves, even if found to be inferior compared to those made in Britain or USA. There's nothing personal about it, it's just what they are. Exactly the same reason why you won't find anything "Made in China" on their supermarket shelves.

Bad enough Australia swopped their German Leopard Tanks for U.S. Abrams, all of which have been reconditioned after being knocked out in Iraq!!

The Australian army rifle is the "NOT MADE IN AUSTRALIA" Austrian Styer A.U.G.

Oh they love the F-35. They just don't like the cost that the war in Iraq has added to anything. Another reason to get the (R) out next year and back to common sense. It is one thing to fight a war we need to win, another for one we need to keep looking for excuses to stay engaged!
