After a visit to the coast today with my daughter and her Nanna and Grandma there was a comment made "the sea air will make you sleep" But does it really make you tired? Is it all mind over matter? How?

So it's the air! All this time I thought it was those umbrella drinks.

The sea air makes you tired because there is less polution in the air and more oxygen. Yes, you are probably getting more exercise. But consider the other factor, less stress. You can finally take a deep breath and relax. The ocean puts you into a state of meditation. Add that to the sun shining on you then you lay down and fall asleep, with nothing on your mind except the sea, wind and sand.

It has always made more feel that little bit more sleepy, however it seems to make my two yeor old son less tired!

I have a place on the coast and while me and the wife are ready for sleep by 9, the little one still seems to be full of energy! Yet my parents claim when I was that age it sent me straight to sleep...

I love the fresh sea air - even when the weather is rough!. You can taste the salt in the air and when you get home you can feel it on your skin. I think I come so awake and alive near the sea that I exhaust myself - because when I get home I'm knackered and yes - sleep like a baby.

It does make me tired, not sure why.
very good Q!
thought it might be to do with the sea air having more O2.

I don't think it's the sea air that makes you tired,it's all the walking you do, on a day at the seaside you must walk miles !

Same experience I had but doctor told me to we are the land animal and seas are not for us. Be calm and rest while, you will get health recovery soon.

I would guess that it is exposure to the sun, not the air that is making everyone tired.

it does make you sleepy, i think the salt in the air makes your body work harder so you feel tired, but all the running around you do on the beach will add to it :)
