What does it mean if it has to be dvd+r compatable?

i just bought this dvd collection from limitedclassics.com and it said the dvd was Format-Free DVD+R (Plays in both PAL and NTSC DVD players). what does that mean? it said it had a dvd menu , professionally authored, but the dvds come in sleeves not in a case. does that mean that they are burned dvds like the ones you can buy at walmart and burn a movie to? Also it said Production Method: Converted episodes from Gen. 1 vhs tapes to DVD video on commercial equipment, DVDs professionally authored. what does this mean? i payed 54 dollars for the 3 seasons bc you cant find this season anywhere else. what does it mean?

When people burn their own dvd's, there are 2 common very similar formats - dvd+r and dvd-r.

Most modern dvd players in computers should be able to read both formats

Many (most?) current dvd players also play both. Pop it in your player and see and it will probably work.

If it doesn't work, use a computer / get a friend to copy these discs to dvd-r discs and they would be ok.

These have been created from vhs videos and should play like commercial dvd's with menus etc. However, this may not be a legit copy - really you should only play them if you have a legal copy of the original tapes - treat these like a backup

It sounds like they burned them themselves if it's on a DVD+R. That's a DVD recordable. They seem to have converted them over from VHS to DVD but said they used professional equipment so you'd expect high quality. I'm sure if you can't find it anywhere else they aren't making them on DVD yet so they had to burn them from VHS. Hope they work for you.

DVD+R and DVD-R are sorts of DVD discs... while handling computers and information discs, there is not any genuine distinction. whether, in case you're burning a DVD to play in an somewhat DVD participant with a television, DVD-R is counseled. Any (RW) suffix skill that the disc is rewritable - you are able to erase it after information has been burnt on it and you will commence returned. notice that those are not continuously properly matched with prevalent DVD gamers although.

They only record, you cannot erase and re-record as in DVD+RW read-write
