Are our lives scripted with a predetermined outcome? Or do we control our own destinies and do our choices in life impact on that ?

Ok, here's an example. I really don't want to offend, but I read about a guy that was on the bus that was blown up in the horrific terror attacks a couple of years ago in London. He was on the bus to go to work, when it occurred to him to get off the bus early. He had no reason for doing so, he just decided to. Was this fate intervening because it wasn't his time?

Adina, has it not occurred to you that it may have been those people's fate that the law was changed and saved them because it wasn't their time?
I am not of one opinion or another- I just wanted to know the consensus of other people's opinion.

Two facts - You are born and you will die - the bit in the middle is done by your own choices and decisions. I do believe that your card is marked from the day you are born - when it is your time to go - you will go. So make the most of that bit in the middle

No, I believe in fete's but not fate. I've been to a couple this year. I picked up some delicious chutney.
If we all live predetermined lives then that means someone or something else must be controlling us, supposedly God (whoever or whatever that is). If that is the case then we are little more than laboratory rats.
In my opinion it's alll just one great big mess. We never have free will anyway. Economics prevent me from doing some things and basic laws such as gravity affect other things. I have free will to climb up a wall but cannot because gravity prevents me from doing so. We are all affected to some extent by the actions of others so perhaps we all only have a certain amount of control over what happens to us.

You plan out all the major things before you come back for another round of life. Because you have free will, you can have a change in plans. Say you were supposed to come back and correct and anger issue you carried with you.
A scenario would be something like this.
You were a very angry person in the past life. You were always being defensive and angry with people who you lived with , worked with and even those you Loved.
Next life you had to see the flip side of the coin. Your Father was angry with you all the time. You planned he would be that way so you could see what it was like to happen to you.
Then when you grew up, you were angry. Something changed in you because you remembered your father being that way and you at that moment broke the chain and decided that was wrong. So from then on, you decided to be peaceful and treat your child in a Loving way instead of a angry way.
There is fate and no accidents.
Did not Jesus know what was going to happen to him.
This is a sign and validation of fate!

It all comes down to your belief system.
Some people believe they have control over their entire destiny.
Some believe that our destinies are written in pencil so it is easy to change for, my guess, human will.
Some believe that "God" already has a master plan for you and many others.
It also depends if you believe everything happens for a reason, based on your choices and your belief system.
This is, in my opinion, something only you can figure out and decide for yourself.
In regards to your update, it comes to question what does human gut or feeling come from? Is it ourselves being aware of the universes energies / messages? Is it a higher being, whether it being an entity, angel, god, goddess, etc, letting us be aware of a message? Or is it free will attempting to change fate?
In my opinion either he felt something wrong in the universe and decided through his free will to do something based on his feelings or he received a message from a higher being that is commonly transposed in humans through feelings and took the message to get off the bus early.

Fate is real... but we do not have a predetermined destiny. When Eve took a bite of that forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden, Humanity gained the gift of knowledge... As a human we have the power to choose where we go and how we get there. It is those choices that bring us down the path Fate wishes we will go.

I don't believe in fate at all. I do not believe that there is a predetermined outcome but I do believe that the choices we make determine where we go in life. That is why we need to be so careful with the decisions we make - we have to be sure we can live with the consequences of those decisions.

A belief in that kind of predetermination is not Christian.
I'm not presuming you are Christian or not, but I am -- and any talk of predestination runs opposite to the freedom of will I believe God gave us all at birth.
I suppose it must be comforting in a way, to believe that no matter what you do or don't do, your future is set and there's nothing you can do about it.
But on the other hand, it does seem kinda like an easy way to get out of doing the hard work of choosing and deciding for yourself at any given point.

Yes to all! Life is predetermined for everyone, but you do have a choice. Your future is mapped out but that future can change. You may take the wrong path occasionally, but as long as you don't consistently take the wrong path you will eventually get back on to the correct path. Life is a game.

Neither
Some people know what they want to do with their lives from the day they are born. Most people have absolutely no control of any kind!
Sometimes we inadvertently trigger some terrible experiences of life through stupidity or some great experiences by accident.
Ideally we learn to write the script ourselves.

To believe in "Fate" implies a super-human Power controlling all things. It is evident that animals respond by instinct : inbuilt-reactions- with no power of reason. Humans however respond by reason and self-determination according to learned parameters."We reap what we sow" is a proven fact. The only pre-determined outcome for all persons is that offered by the Bible. That is - God has determined that the Earth will be governed by His will AFTER He resumes control by means of His Son Jesus Christ and Jesus' co-rulers in Heaven ,ruling over people who have freely chosen to live by God's Laws on Earth.People can choose wether or not to live on Earth under God's Government by obedience to His commandments at this time BEFORE the destruction of wicked people at Har-Mageddon.We are going to die,but the choice is simply - death forever , or life forever, by choosing God's way.
