How do I remove the fuel fliter on an '84 Ford E-150?

It is the kind that is located on the fuel line just before entering the carb. If I try to unscrew it, the metal fuel line twists

I tried that, holding the filter, but when I turn the fuel line nut the whole line tries to turn with it.

Hold the filter with a wrench or vise grips and turn the fuel line nut loose with another wrench. Once the fuel line is loose from the filter you can remove the filter.
