There is nothing you can do. I sucked my thumb till I was 12. She will just wake up one day and decide thats the day for her to grow up. My parents tried everything!!!! nothing worked because I had to make up my mind that I was going to quit and I did.

This is obviously a comfort thing, left over from early childhood, and making a big deal about it will only leave her more anxious. Let her grow out of it herself. I know many kids who sucked their thumbs up to adolescence only to grow out of it as they entered their teens and find better ways of coping in stress. Also, peer pressure is wonderful in making kids actively try to stop themselves.
Holding something in that hand (perhaps a small keyring or teddy) will give her hands something to do so she can't suck her thumb so that could be worth a try if she's desperate.

I had a friend that tried everything to stop biting her nails, nothing seemed to work. I said to her "Just think of everything you touch all day long and then you put your fingers in your mouth" Well it seemed to work and she stopped doing this disgusting habit. Flushing toilets when someone before you just wiped their behind and now your hand is there...this is something to think about before you hand goes into your mouth. Sink faucets and the list could go on and on-lots of germs everywhere - GROSS

1] tell her to wear gloves at home.
2] buy her a thumb ring - a bit wide . As soon as she tastes the metal or plastic, she will remember to take the thumb out of her mouth. [ even a wide rubber band will work. ]

try putting a sock on her hand taped not too tight but not loose enough to pull it off. Put it on when she's home and during the night.

that sounds like my cousin, my aunt put Tabasco hot sauce on her thumb and my cousin never sucked her thumb since...it sounds mean but it works

unfortunately my sister is 19 and still sucks her thumb...I think that if they don't want to stop then they won't

put hot sauce on the thumb. didnt work for me but my parents tried and tried.

have her keep a sucker with her and when she has the urge to suck on her thumb pull the sucker out of offer her one.

Dip her finger in raw lemon juice. You will see she wont suck anymore.
