The smoking generally will not slow down the healing process. Keep in mind, wisdom teeth are molars (the big teeth) and when they are removed, there are some big holes left in their place. Be patient, they will close, in the next month or so, but the smoking does not affect it

I don't think your smoking will impede your healing; just remember that smoking WILL give you dry-sockets. If you have dry-sockets, you will know it because it's very painful. Bones usually take 6-8 weeks to start healing well and they hurt for a longgg time. Given that a tooth as large as a wisdom tooth was pulled from your jaw, and given that I had mine removed when I was 45, I'd say you will need a good 2-3 months AT LEAST for those places to heal completely. Godloveya.

smoking does indeed inhibit the recovery and healing of extraction sites, it is a combination of the pressure you create by sucking on a cigarette and the decrease in circulation as a result of the carcinogens in the smoke itself.
It is possible that the tissue will not regenerate and you will be left with "pits" in your gums. If it does regenerate it can take many months to fill in and grow back. Maintain careful and regular oral hygiene and that will help.

The effect of your smoking does prevent your gums to properly seal over. I suggest you take a week off of the smoking to give your gums a break! If you dont, your gums opening at current could become larger and spread towards other molars in your mouth and out come the rest of your teeth!
