I'm very qualified with a lot of experience, but still haven't been able to find a job. I have been looking for work for about a month now, and am really getting depressed. I'm homesick and pretty soon I'm going to be broke. As a last resort, I went to a temp agency, but they suck and haven't found me a job yet. I've been sending out resumes daily. I've gone on interviews but haven't landed a good job yet.

I'm really suffering here. I'm crying all the time, feeling homesick, and getting SO discouraged about this work thing. I just started over in a new city and am having a difficult time adjusting. I think all these things are causing me to be depressed. What can I do to help myself feel better?

hi aida,
this is a difficult one to answer because you need some practical assistance really...
first of all, don't panic... the things that we want don't always come to us as readily as we expect them to... but stick it out and you'll get there in the end... you could look for some other type of work to tide you over until you get what you are looking for... it can take 2 or 3 months to get the job hunting into a fast gear...
also, are there some support groups in the city that you are living in? social groups or support groups? it sounds like you need just a little bit of friendly encouragement and a few friends on your side... i don't know what groups you might find, but it is worth looking on the internet or in a library or in a local community centre.
You obviously moved to the new city for a reason, so try to stick this difficult period out... take it a day at a time... it can only get better from here!
Remember that you are brave, and that your depression will, no doubt, ease once you get some sort of support network in place or when you make some friends...
As for the money... can you get any help from the government or a loan?... or like i said, take another type of job while you job hunt for your preferred type of work.
So, be brave, take a day at a time, focus on your goal, and best of luck!
A local community centre might have some groups that you could join... find one and see if they have anything going on there that you like the look of...
take care,
zag :-)

To manage your bills:
Get a basic physical or sales job. Work it until something better comes along, even if it's $8 hr.
To manage the lack of income, consider a different living arrangement, room-mate, or even a live-in job arrangement
(Like apartment maintenance, as an aide to handicapped, or even the Army)
Cut expenses. You need transportation, but nothing fancy, just something to get you from point A to point B.
If you don't eat it, or use it for your job search, don't BUY it !!

To manage your time:
Try to set a regular schedule for your time, and keep it.
Get a basic job and work it.
Your down time is what to watch out for. It can get you down.

To manage your health
Eat and sleep at your usual time schedule

To manage your emotions
Get out and walk or jog in the FRESH AIR DAILY.
Get yourself out of the house every day, and around people.
(go for a Coke or coffee, the park, watch ball teams playing, make it to church and concerts, and other free places -- the conversations will keep your mind active -- networking will be the most likely way to find a job)
Strike-up conversations - Be friendly, even if you don't feel friendly. Be a good listener.

To manage your job search, wherever you go...
print-up a batch of Business Cards with your contact info. Hand them out everywhere -- it's called networking

When you land the GREAT JOB, don't toss your other contacts. Keep them on file, you can start there if this situation arises again.

[by the way, I know a person who was hired at $8 an hr. 3 yrs ago. Hard work payed off. Promotions came quickly........the pay has multiplied now]

For the depressions, seek the help of a counselor.

And try not to loose heart. Sometimes it takes a little longer to find a new job. I know it can be difficult if you depend on the money. But try to look at the positive side. You say you have been looking "only" for a month. That's not that long. Give it a little more time, another month maybe. How knows, maybe your new job it waiting for you just a week away.

"If you fail try try again" so, don't worry. Follow these instructions it will be helpful for you, I think so. Wish you good luck & success

Depression, Tension & Increase of will-power.

Increasing the will-power : Our mind has a great effect on these glands. For example, continuous fear damages the Pituitary gland and makes one timid. Similarly, tension and worry disturb the Pineal gland and so leads to high B.P. and as Pineal gland controls other glands it also disturbs other glands and digestive system. In modern times, strees-tension or worry-fear have increased and they often disturb these endocrine glands. If these endocrine glands are not treated immediately, it might lead to malfunctioning of other glands of the body. As these glands are interrelated, whenever one gland is disturbed, the other glands also get disturbed. So, when you press on the pointsof these endocrine glands you will feel pain on points of more than one gland especially in case of chronic diseases. Therefore, it is very improtant to give Acupressure treatment on all the endocrine glands and keep them under proper control.

These glands also control the mind (the will-power). So in order to get rid of bad habits like smoking, drinking, drug addiction or even overeating, it is extremely necessary to give treatment on all endocrine glands for at least, fifteen days. Because, these people lack the necessary will-power to give up bad habits, they often break their vows to stop such bad habits and so they are considered unreliable. However, a treatment of fifteen days will give them necessary will-power to stop these bad habits after that. And they will be free from the withdrawal symptoms of stopping these bad habits.

Nervous tension : In the modern days because of fast life and loss of contentment, nervous tension keeps on building up increasingly, tending to damage our mind and health.

How to find out : Ask the patient to lie down on the back and ask some one to press on the base of the middle toe in both the legs. If there is a hurting sensation,it means nervous tension. If the hurting is unbearable, it means that the person is on the verge of collapse and needs immediate attention.

C U R E : (1) While the patient is lying on the back, bend all the toes of both legs, backward. It may hurt but give little more pressure and bend them as much as possible. Repeat this three times a day till the tension is removed.

(2) Clasp your hands tightly interlocking the fingers. Then with left hand fingers press on the back of the right hand and then with right hand fingers, press on the back of the left hand. repeat for about 1 to 2 minutes, 3 to 4 times a day.

(3) Insomnia : The above mentioned treatment can be taken for 5 to 12 minutes at night in bed to ensure good sleep and cure insomnia.

(4) Take 2 glasess of gold/cilver/copper charged water reduced from 8 glasses of water daily.

(5) Kali Phos 1 m (a Biochemic medicine) : Take 8 pills in the eveining between 8 to 9 p.m. for 10 days, then once a week. After 10 days Kali Phos 12 x 4+4 pills every day. Complete course is of 45 days.
