This won't work, the SHO is a small 3.4 L V8 made by Yamaha and come in the front wheel drive Taurus. The T-bird is rear drive,

Just use either a 4.6 SOHC from the T-bird, Mustang or Cougar. You could also use the 3.8 V6 supercharged engine from the 89-95 T-bird and cougars. They all make 210-230 hp stock

I just looked at a nice 97/98 SHO for $5k, these are Taurus 4 doors. They are a rare car and it would be hard to find a engine, did I mention they don't make them anymore and so parts are hard to find.

There was no 5.0 SHO, he must be thinking of the Cobra SVT dohc 4.6

The V-6 was much better than the V-8. Ford had to de-tune the V-8 rather seriously in order to keep the auto trans from tearing up. The V-8 was only avail in auto, the V-6 was only avail in standard. But neither of these are suitable for the T-bird, as it is rwd. Better to just drop a 5.0 in it, from a cost standpoint, ease of installation, parts availability, etc

The 5.0 HO (302CI) from a stang would bolt right in, also the 351W is the same block and available in cop cars those years it would also bolt right in. Of course it just depends on how much work you want to do.

junk, don't waste your time. the only good sho motor was the 6 cylinder manufasctured by yamaha. those too can be modified to fit. and they are seriously de-tuned.
