The placement of the tree was an ongoing exercise in free will and what man would do with it! That way, God could see by man's OBEDIENCE that we loved Him UNCONDITIONALLY enough to NOT partake of something that would introduce sin into our lives, gradually killing the body. Satan was successful in seducing Eve by telling her that she wouldn't die but would become "wise as gods".... She didn't understand the duality behind Satan's statement. It WAS PARTIALLY correct in that they (Adam and Eve) DIDN'T die immediately, but they DID eventually die, for the SIN of DISOBEDIENCE made God DOUBT man's love for Him and etc. , allowing evil to slowly kill the body.

The other day, I herda preacher on the radio say god told them to tend the garden, and probably take care of this very tree, just not eat the fruit! How does anybody no for sure??? I can't *WAIT* for all your cool answers! :D
As far as puttin it there, God did, not Satan, since god created all that.

peace be upon you
Not satan who put the tree there .the God did .
This was an exam ,they failed and they learnt.
They learnt that satan is their enemy and want all evil for human and his all work in the life will be to make us away from the God . and who don't listen to satan ,will go back to paradice and who listen to satan ,will go with him to the hell
and this is the aphorism of the God.
The God forgive our parents Adam and Eve as they turns back and the God know human are weak.

That is one way God tested Adam and Eve's faith and obedience towards God. Thats why He put the tree there but in the end Eve disobeyed God and she and the rest of humanity have reeked the consequences. God tests our faith everyday, He gave us a choice to obey or disobey, to follow His Word and way of life.

What "God" did or did not want had nothing to do with it. Omniscience would give "God" the ability to know what would happen well before the Creation. To say that God put it there anyway is to say that God wanted the "Fall" to happen.
There is no mention of Satan in the garden of eden. There is a talking snake, but the snake is represented as a creature, not the "Devil."

Because God desires us to obey him. He gave a freedom of choice, He never wanted us to give in to sin. But He loves us enough to let us choose death or life. The tree of the knowledge of good and evil was actually for God alone. He gave them the choice of not eating of it and living forever, or eating of it and suffering eternal death. It is really our own choices that damn us, or bless us.

This is part of God's unconditional love. You see, according to God-logicks, it is completely acceptable to tempt an innocent person to the point of failure. And upon this failure, it is completely acceptable to not only punish them, but to also punish all of their descendants for thousands of years. Unconditional love includes testing the willpower of someone weaker than you. Unconditional love includes the creation of infitne punishment for finte actions. Unconditional love includes punishing the children, grandchildren, etc. of the individual for a single act of the individual alone. If you sit back and think about it, it truly is amazing just how much God actually loves us.

Apparently, it was a test.
How's that? God created people, gave them the ability to fail if they wanted to, and will torture them forever if they do.
Pretty cool, eh?
