I'd like a queen and I'd like it to last at least 10 years. What is a good brand? Where can I get a good deal? I would like to have a payment plan, like 12 months with no interest, if possible (my credit is average). I am also open to getting a slightly used mattress, as long as it is very clean. Any suggestions are appreciated. I'm in the Los Angeles area.

OK, the first thing is that if you go with someone whos name begins with an "S," you're probably pretty safe. That is:
-Sealy
-Serta
-Spring Air
-Stearns & Foster
-Simmons

Outside of the "S" companies, I have a King Koil mattress, and they've done a ton in the last couple years to up their quality. And the way they have different firmness zones really made sense to me.

Tips for BUYING, though, are different. You need to lay fully down on the mattress. Don't just sit on the side, or lay on it with your feet hanging off...well unless that's how you sleep at night (haha).

Different people like different things. So what I like doesn't mean it'll be something YOU like. And that's why you need to lay on it.

They have "no turn" mattresses now. That's a mis-nomer. It means you don't have to flip it. That means the part touching the box spring is always the same, but you should spin the head side around to the feet side. Normal mattresses should be flipped and turned to last long. Personally, I don't trust the no-turns to last as long...but that's just me.

Final thing: buy the mattress AND box spring. Don't put a new mattress on an old box...and I wouldn't go used (gross).

Deals? They happen quite a bit, if you're watching. In fact, there will probably be good ones over Labor Day weekend. AND NEGOTIATE!!! Beds should never be bought at the listed price (and I'd try to get it less than any advertised sale too).

Good luck

Well, I am on the other side of the country (central-west NJ). When I needed a new mattress about a year ago, I went online to 1-800-MATTRES. I ordered a new one for about $550. As you don't necessarily need to buy a brand new one, I imagine you could even check your newspaper's classifieds. But there is what I mentioned above, as well as Sleepy's.

try it out before u buy it. the employees at a mattress store are used to seeing people jumping on beds to test the punishment it can take.
