I have a very nice 5 year old for sale. I've had it listed for 3 weeks now and have lowered the price each week. It is now below book value. Moreover, it's a Toyota for crying out loud! The problem is, I have not even had people call about it and only one person look at it and offer me a ridiculously low price ( mean, insultingly low). What gives??

Yes, it is an SUV. 4runner. I have it listed for $14500. It's $400 below KBB. I guess SUVS are just out these days. How low should I go then? Does the fact that it's an SUV mean I will lose a bunch of money? I had no problem paying $16000 for it last year (at 80k miles). I guess it's the gas price increases since then. Darned greedy oil bastards.

Is it dirty? How many miles does it have? Hows the paint job? There are alot of factors involved and you aint giving much info.

Also the guy may have been trying to pull one over on you because youre a chick. Read a book (or take a course) on bargaining and negotiation so you can get a better deal next time. You are going to get low offers, but you have to negotiate for a better price. If nothing else call the guy back and ask him why he gave such a low offer.

What are the details (model, miles, condition). Where is it listed, maybe its not listed in a source that gets a lot of traffic.
try www.craiglist.org, www.ebay.com ,www.kijiji.com try putting obo with your ad and also right now suv's are "out" people don't want gas hogs, so if it's an suv that may be part of the problem. Do you have a photo with your ad that helps a lot!! I sold my toyota celcia in one day for 2 grand more than what I wanted I only used craigslist.

Without knowing anything about the car, I'm guessing it is either an SUV, you are asking too much, or not many people in the market to buy your car are reading your ad.

If the car is in excellent condition, you should be asking between Good and Excellent, "Private Party" to start, and placing 'neg' or negotiable in the ad.
Also, check the Edmunds.com "True market Value (TMV)" for your area. This will tell you can expect your vehicle to actually sell for in your area.
It is all about supply and demand. good luck.

THE REASON IS BECAUSE IT IS A TOYOTA.

I HAVE ONE AND IT IS MY FIRST AND LAST ONE. MINE IS A PIECE OF JUNK. WITH OUT A WORD OF LIE IT HAS BEEN MY WORST NIGHTMARE.

TWO MONTHS AGO MY MONEY PIT COST ME A LITTLE BIT OVER 600 IN REPAIRERS. IF IT HAD NOT BEEN FOR TWO JUNK YARD PARTS. THE BILL WOULD HAVE BEEN AROUND 1,000. THE PAST FRIDAY ANOTHER 400 PLUS.

Welcome to the world on what cars are really worth.

Try listing it on a site like http://www.craigslist.org

But don't expect your car to sell at blue book.
