We are wanting to do pictures after the wedding but do not want to keep guests waiting. The wedding and reception will be at the same place and food will be served along with a dance. But I need a time filler to keep guests entertained during pictures until our presence will be made at the reception.... Any unique fun ideas?

A cocktail hour with grazing stations is the norm these days. I have been to a few black-tie events (although not weddings) where they had a strolling magician or a reader (you know, fortune teller type person) entertaining the guests during down times. That could be something fun and different.

Most people do a cocktail hour where there is light music, mingling, and an open cocktail bar with light hors d'heurves. If you want to add a fun twist to that, rent a photo booth so guests can have their pictures made in the photo booth while they wait. I've seen this on some of the wedding shows and it always goes over really well. You could also do something that fits with your theme. For example, I've heard of one couple who had a Cuban heritage and chose a Latin theme for their wedding, hired a Cuban cigar maker to do hand rolled cigars for guests out of their choice of tobacco. This was done during both the cocktail hour and throughout the rest of the reception. Hope that helped. Good luck!

It is normal for the guests to wait while the bridal party is off taking pictures.

Leave the entertaining up to your DJ, that is what you are paying him for.

Another idea is to have some appetizers served while you are out and of course serve drinks to your guests.

It is expected, so don't stress about this.

Generally people have a cocktail hour while the bridal party pictures are being taken... but:

You can supply cameras for guest to take their own pictures for you to see later. Put them on a table that says "Show the bride and groom what they are missing."

Have a videographer set up telling people to give their blessing while waiting. If there are people who are camera shy, supply a book with silly and serious questions that people can fill out. Like: "What is you favorite memory invovling bride and groom?" "Any advice for the married couple?"

Most of the time people just do a light hor durve and drink. They normally talk and hug family and friends they havent seen in a while or get to know the new family. If you want to do something how about a powerpoint presentation with you and your fiance. pics of yall when you were born, growing up, and then meeting together. you can put a nice song behind it and these can turn out really nice! even make you cry. tears of joy of course! :) Good Luck!

We had everyone go outside and the photographer take a picture of everyone. Please speak to the photographer before just announcing it, they may not want to do it. It takes longer than you think.....You may want to hire a magician, clown or face painter to occupy the guests. A harpist could play while they mingle. Otherwise, you really are not obligated to entertain the guests. We are all too familiar with that time period waiting for the bridal party to finish the pictures. They'll survive. Good luck!

After my wedding we are renting a limo to drive us and so I am letting everyone start eating before we get there and once we get done with pictures and stuff they will stop the serving line and let us go through.

A cocktail hour is typical, music is played and light appetizers and drinks are available. People can then talk and get caught up with people they haven't seen. If appetizers are out of your budget then maybe a meat/cheese/cracker and veggie tray that you can do up yourself the day or two before the wedding.

Bring out the alcohol and have horsdouevres (sp?). I think people look forward to digging in soon after the ceremony.

Just plan a cocktail hour an hour before the dinner, and that's all you need to do. Have music playing.
