Yes yes yes you should!
Just like tv too much of anything can be bad
Children that are left with unlimited computer times are far More likely to get bad grades, be obese, be less social in real life, and far more likely to get into trouble online (go figure)
A good rule of thumb is this
From 5 on they should get 30 minutes play time
From 8 on they should get 30 minutes for homework (make exceptions for essays and whatnot) and 45 minutes to an hour for play time (only once a day)
from 12 on should get 1 hour for homework (exceptions for essays) and get 1 hours to 90 minutes for play time as long as they are involved in some sort of physical activity atleast 3 times a week whether it be sports, tag in the back yard or karate etc.
From 8 on you should pop In ND check on your child unannounced every 15-20 minutes to be sure they are not looking at porn, playing games instead of doing homework or IM - about topics they wouldn't dare talk about on the phone least they be over heard - learn the online lingo so you are aware of what they are really saying when they say things like omg and bbiaf ect.
hope this helps you out

My dad makes the younger ones share the computer in 30 minute intervals. And they're not allowed to watch TV or play on the Internet before 5pm. Plus they take an hour to eat dinner, an hour to get ready for bed, etc. So really they only play for about 1 hour on school days.
I'm 14 and I don't have a restriction because my dad know I'm not a computer addict like my 10 year old brother and my 7 year old sister.

I am a nanny and one family I worked with had a real problem with the computer and their boys(8,13,16). I suggested a device called BOB, from www.hopscotchtechnology.com. Instead of Mom and Dad yelling that time is up, the device shuts of the Tv, comp, ect. Kids feel like they can get around you, but they can't get around BOB. Works Great!!!

Yes I do, because when they're on the comp., they ignore everything and never get off of it. My daughter is 12 and my son is 9, on weekdays, they use the comp for two hours only, and on weekend, three hours. If I'm in a good mood then more.

Absolutely. My limit is, for every minute they spend on the computer or playing video games, they have to spend that same amount of time outside playing, riding bikes, etc. I don't want them to be couch potatoes or get obese.

My child is ten and I only allow her about two hours on the computer. I think it is unhealthy to be on the computer constantly. We do projects/crafts and activities outside. We also have game night and read mysteries together.
