No one should be here illegally, I understand why people come here, but they should do it right. Once here, I believe they shouldn't be able to qualify for any type of public assistance(food stamps or medicaid). Immigrants should be placed in English classes to learn how to communicate with those of us who are not bilingual. I do not speak Spanish, I don't plan on going to Spain or Mexico. If i were to move to Mexico, I would learn Spanish before i moved, just out of respect.

Illegal Immigation has been getting a great deal of media coverage over the past year or two. No one seems to remember that this nation was built by those who emigrated from their country in order to find freedom. Those who did, made this country what it is today.

Everything depends on what your definition of an illegal immigrant is. Those who cross our borders without our consent and then refuse to begin the lengthy process of citizenship or those who come here legally but overstay their visa time limits without applying for an extension are the only true illegals. Some people seem to think that if you're from a third world country and are not yet a citizen of the USA, that this is what constitutes an illegal immigrant! Not at all true!

Most Americans haven't a clue as to what the process is, how much it costs or how long it takes to become a citizen here. The costs involved are monumental for a person or family who have menial jobs and the time it takes to obtain a green card and ultimate citizenship is absolutely mind boggling! I know two women, one from Portugal and the other from Brasil, whose roads to citizenship took over 16 years to complete!!!

The entire issue has gotten out of hand here. The only good that can come of it is that the day comes when people begin to look behind the scenes and discover the wrongs that are being perpetrated on those who are paying a heavy price to live as we do. These people have jobs, bear children who are being educated here, do everything asked of them as far as the Department of Immigration is concerned, pay both the attorneys who are handling their cases and the heavy fees Immigration levies upon them, but still live in fear of being deported at any moment in time before citizenship is granted them.

I'm sorry, but there is something very wrong with this picture! As far as learning Spanish goes, that's been going on for years and there is nothing wrong with learning another language because you would like to rather than feeling as though you have to. It's a fairly moot point though since Spanish is only spoken in relatively few countries. The languages spoken by those of hispanic origin are quite different although some have a similarity to Spanish.

Illegal immigrants are just like any other human except they are undocumented. They made the wrong decision about coming to the US illegally, this is already done though. There are not going back because most of them seek opportunity to grow here as well as help their family in their country of origin. As far as learn a second language- well that's just a personal choice. If you think that learning a second will also open a variety of doors for you- then you do so. If you think that learning a second language is just crazy and treason- like some people think: well thats just sad....

Illegal immigrants have no rights to be here. The US immigration laws, are there for a reason.

Learning Spanish well, if I lived in a country where Spanish was the national language then of course I would learn it. But I don't.

I learned Spanish because I grew up on the border. As for "illegal immigrants" they all need to be sent home regardless of where they are from.

i think they are people trying to support their families. some are doing harm to get jobs and some are trying to make a living. its all where you stand in the world. but with the illegal immigrants we have people from saudi arabia shaving their heads and beards and the look mexican! its an easy way into the united states. and most of those illegals are being paif by some organization working for bin laden. it needs to be stopped and we need to keep them out.

and the " day after tommorow" movie thought we'd all flock to mexico. wow has the world changed.

women and teenagers aree getting themselves pregnant on purpose then coming to america to have their babies....because we can not deny them health help and then their whole fricken family stays because the father got the daughter pregnant and she had it in america.

this is a tragic world

Illegal=criminal
Illegal aliens=criminal aliens
Illegal aliens need to be deported ASAP.
Fine the companies who employ them
If illegals fly the Mexican flag in America or sing the National Anthem in Spanish, they can do that all the way back to Mexico.
No more needing to speak Spanish to get a job at a grocery store.
ILLEGAL ALIENS SHOULD BE WIPED FROM AMERICA. TIME FOR THE USA TO CLOSE ITS BORDERS!

I think that undocumented people are an issue. How to deal with it is the debate.

And, I am fluent in Spanish. I think that we as a country put little emphasis on languages, and, nearly every other country of the world people embrace other languages. I have a friend from France that is fluent in 4.

I think it's great for people to learn more than one language. Many people in the world know more than two. I love that there are now several languages on signs and materials. I'm slowing learning to read French and Spanish. Too bad American's think English is the only language worth knowing. And its kind of cool to know what foreign people are saying when they don't have a clue you understand them!
As far as illegal immigrants.. we should be glad the Indians didn't have the means to export all of us!!! Many Anglo-Saxons in this country (especially those who proudly point to being on the first few boats) have a family background of "illegal immirgation."
The problem isn't the immigrants.. they wouldn't come here if they weren't sure they'd find work. The problem is the companies who keep hiring them!!.
