I know its not much in the scheme of things, but due to some poor judgement in the past I seem to be plagued by bad karma. How can I get some good karma, I've tried to be good and do good things for people. Why is it the law of 3 only works when you're being naughty, not when you're being nice?

The law of three is a wiccan belief when casting spells- Whatever you send out, it comes back times 3. So if you go out of your way to cause someone harm it will come back to you and you will experience three times the misery you caused.

Change your actions. Karma is a result of your actions. Bad actions cause bad Karma, Good actions cause good Karma. Simple as that.

Karma is not fate, destiny, or the capricious whim of some deity. We 'master' Karma by seeing through the illusion of seperateness, by seeing that there is no need to interpolate a doer apart from the doing.

And if we turn inward and prove our True Nature, that
True Self is no-self, our own self is no-self,
we go beyond ego and past clever words.
Then the gate to the oneness of cause-and-effect is thrown open.
Not two and not three, straight ahead runs the Way.
Our form now being no-form,
in going and returning we never leave home.
Our thought now being no-thought,
our dancing and songs are the Voice of the Dharma.

How vast is the heaven of boundless Samadhi!
How bright and transparent the moonlight of wisdom!
What is there outside us? What is there we lack?
Nirvana is openly shown to our eyes.
This earth where we stand is the pure lotus land!
And this very body, the body of Buddha.

Behave with kindness, generosity and clarity. Avoid violent, manipulative behaviour, stealing, intoxicating chemicals and telling lies. Cultivate interest in other people as well as yourself, be generous with your time if you don't have any money but don't let people waste it.

Don't be ethical just because you're afraid of punishment from god or "an authority" but as a path of "spiritual training". Ethics is a psychological skill that anyone can learn and practice and it purifies your karma if you want to believe in it.

A life without ethics is a life not worth living.

As other people have said, be nice, be kind, do good things. But that means you too. Be compassionate to yourself, don't give yourself a hard time.
Do your best.
Give it time
Learning to meditate would probably help.
Look for good things, not bad.
Concentrate on where you're going, not where you've been.
You sound like a very nice person, just let that side of you shine.
Don't worry too much. If your intention is good, good will flow.

Karma is about NOW. You cannot what or when the Karma is that is playing itself, but the key is to pay the karma with strength and do not miss your lessons or you will learn them again and until they are learned. BE HERE NOW!

Stop worrying about karma, would be my advice. Don't do good things only to get good in return.
Listen to your inner voice, the voice that will always lead you on your right path. Meditating helps.

If you want good karma, then you should do good deeds. What comes around goes around. The results are not always immediate. Be patient. Give it time. Good things happen to good people.

All karma is good. Mortality is opportunity to correct behavioral errors from ones last mortal existence. Thinking good thoughts helps.

I believe in karma as well.

Seems to me that your mistake is trying to do good deeds to improve it. The motivation to do them isn't true. Just do good deeds for the sole reason of doing good. Know that your karma will improve.
