I have a 13 and a half year old miniature poodle. I've had her since she was 8 weeks old. Up until last week she has never had an accident in the house ever. Twice last week while we were not home she had accidents. She drinks a lot of water during the night. My father was suggesting that before we go to sleep we should maybe put the water bowl up on the sink for night and then put it back down in the morning so she isn't drinking a lot all night. I feel that is mean to do to the dog but do you think it might help? Maybe she won't have any more accidents?

definately it is ok to take up the water. you can, as with a puppy, take it up at 7 pm and put down in the morning.
Unfortunately, you dog is starting the signs of old age.

Also little kids should be put in a crate if they want to pee , I would love to put kids in a crate when they come to visit with the parents, just in case they have to go potty they can yell and push their stupid little faces against the cage door. Many parents don't have the time to potty train their kid and just hope that the public school will teach them , but when they visit we always remove all water from them and ask the parents to crate them, and many don't mind and eventually they fall asleep. Kids really don't need much water at the wrong time of day and you should make sure they have to hold their potty till you feel it is a good time for them to go. ---- some people don't deserve the right to have a dog but do deserve a nice butt kicking .

I vote with the "go see your vet" group. When a perfectly housebroken dog suddenly begin to have problems, it is often medical. Be a darn shame to ruin hundreds of dollars of rugs, and have a bladder infection that can be cured with a few $$ of antibiotics turn into a major expensive kidney problem for lack of "a stitch in time"

It is completely alright to put the water up for the night. In fact a lot of dog owners kennel overnight and while they are gone to work for the day. This is not cruel like locking them in a cell, remember they are den animals and this relieves stress in most dogs lives.
You might have to take kenneling in to consideration now that your dog is getting up there in years and might be developing a bladder control problem. You might want to have you vet check her out to make sure it is not a medical issue. Also you need to be the strong one for her you are her leader and she will look to as such.

Dogs do not get embarrassed! Nor do they pee at night for no reason.

At 13 years old she needs to see a vet to see if there is a reason for her sudden urination at night. I would not pull her water especially if she has a medical problem.

I vet vist is in order before you take her water away.

Yes it is ok to remove water at night.

However at her age it may not change anything.
Perhaps baby gate off the bathroom or kitchen where messes are easily cleaned up.

Poor girl is old now and just like us...needs a diaper.

it's okay to take the water away, we don't give ours water after 9pm. Their last potty run is at 9:30pm. As with any living creature, animal or otherwise, we all lose control of our bladder as we get older. Nothing to worry about, just do as your dad suggested. And maybe while your gone either give her a little bit of water or have someone let her out, only if you trust them.

At age 13 your pet's kidneys are probably starting to fail and she needs extra water to flush impurities out of her system because the kidneys can't do it anymore. Withholding water could kill her. If you get her to the vet soon enough he may be able to help.
