Why not? I lived in an apartment, so I got a cat. Then I got a house and got two dogs. Now I have two cats and two dogs and I love them all. Cats are great because you can be out for an entire day, even overnight and you just need to make sure they have food and water. On the other hand, dogs are more fun, but forget about leaving them alone. I can't go anywhere after work without taking them for a walk. They wake me up Sat. moring after a night out at 6 am to go out. I am a dog person, but my cats are a lot easier.

Many people may think of Dog or Cat persons, but i think there can also just be an animal person. I used to think that I was a dog person - I really didn't like cats. But then my girlfriend and her new kitten moved into my place for a few months and I found myself spending a lot of time with the little guy. Shortly after, I adopted two homeless kittens and became a cat lover.
Once we got a house, we also adopted a white shepherd and I couldn't tell you who I love more - the cats or the dog. We're all one big, happy family. My boyfriend likes to tease me with questions which animal I'd rescue if I had to choose, but he quickly shuts up when I give him the "probably you if you don't quit it" look ;)

I use to have a cat. I was asking myself the same questions. You can be both. I am now more of a dog person than a cat person. You can like both

Of course you can! Both cats and dogs make wonderful pets; however they each have different qualities that appeal to different people. Cats are more aloof, they are extremely clean in their personal grooming, do not mind being left alone while you go to work or shopping, but they are happy when you return, and love to sit close to you for affection.
Dogs are much more social, desiring your companionship on a consistant basis. They want to go with you when you leave just to be near you, and also to experience the adventure of an outing. Dogs love to sleep with their humans and play with them.
The personality traits of either pet that appeals most to you will determine whether you are a "cat person or a "dog person." If you choose dogs, then you must be prepared to devote the kind of attention to your pet that he/she deserves.
Whichever pet you choose, your attentions will be rewarded with unwavering devotion and years of unquestioning love.
