Has anyone been there recently? Is it safe if you stay in the French Quarter and dont go anywhere else? Is everything there still open? Does it still look the same?

If you've been to the French Quarter before, it will look very much the same. And don't venture too far away from it. A lot of the rest of town still looks like a war zone, but you wouldn't necessarily know it on the French Quarter. Do visit though, tourism is even more vital to the local economy now than ever, and it is much appreciated!

Like everyone said, the French quarter is safe. Uptown is somewhat safe as well. Don't venture out of those areas.

Yes, it's great!
I definitely wouldn't venture away from the tourist areas of the French Quarter though.

I lived in New Orleans my whole life until 2 years ago and still go back to visit family and friends, the few who are left anyway. I wouldn't recommend a vacation there. I'm used to it but it would probably scare you.

of course! the french quarter looks great and is beautiful as always...and tons of great shopping and culture and of course food(petunia's is one of my favorites).

and of course go uptown and to magazine and such...dont listen to outside media outlets it is totally safe here and no one is being mutated by storm sewage and other stupid rumors :)
