I know what it says. I'm asking what it means to YOU. If it doesn't mean anything to you, you don't have to answer.

The Lord's Prayer is model prayer Jesus showed his disciples when he taught them how to pray to his Father. It is a very important prayer for true Christians and it means a lot to me. This Lord's prayer forms a basis for my personal prayers to my Heavenly Father Jehovah for me to get more closer to Him. (Jas 4:8) The Lord's Prayer can encourage me to know that the reproaches heaped on God's name by his enemy will one day be completely erased. (Prov. 27:11) It is through this prayer that I can have the hope that one day this world will be a better place by means of Jah's Kingdom headed by his son Jesus Christ.—Dan. 2:44.

The Lord's Prayer is so important to be me because it can remind me of the need to request to Jehovah God for His assistance in providing my needs. It also encourages me to forgive someone who has sinned against me and it directs me to look to Jehovah for protection in this world that is lying in the power of the wicked one.—1 John 5:19.

The Lord's Prayer is very very important to me. In fact, it is a guide for me to eternal life in God's New World.

I am NOT a christian but I believe that the Lord's Prayer is wonderful
I ask only for my basic needs to be met and agree to forgive others so that my creator can forgive me(as he always does which puts ALL the pressure on me to do some serious forgiving)

In all honesty, it doesn't mean much to me at all. I was raised in the Presbyterian church and went to a catholic school so I do know some about different religions. I was forced to go to every type of function at church growing up so it wasn't a choice for me.
Different prayers, to me, are nothing but words people have memorized over the years. I'm sure some people truly put all their faith in what they are saying but to me, I just don't see the point.
If you believe in God, Allah, Budda or any other "higher being", why do you need to say a bunch of words? Your own words are enough to show respect.

When Jesus was a young Man at home with about seven younger brothers and sisters, He provided "The Lord's Prayer" to them as they asked Jesus for some set petition (prayer) to our Universal Father God. Jesus preferred that spontaneous personal praying would be done; but did grant their wishes.

It is sad that some words of our Lord Jesus' Prayer became mis-translated over the years. Praying to God to "Lead us not into temptation" is foolish as God never ever would do that ungodly action ! "Save us in our own temptations" is much better. "Deliver us from evil, and increasingly make us perfect like Yourself." (this last important phrase was lost.) Will dogmatic, crystallized, ecclesiastical Christian churches ever change this Prayer ?... Yes ... but very reluctantly and over a very long time. Long traditions are hard to change -- "Faith of our fathers" is idolized as "All Truth". Many ordained ministers do know this; but they are afraid to bring it up to their congregations -- error is better than "rocking the boat" and maybe losing $$ contributions from the spiritually mediocre members. Quantity not quality is the goal.

Personal religionists have the true spiritual liberty in Jesus to change to higher truth, beauty and goodness as fast as they like ! He the Spirit of ALL Truth is here with and within us Jesusonian Christian believers ! See and believe John 16:7-16.

In The Lord's Prayer we have this line:

"Your Kingdom come, Your will be done,
ON EARTH as it is in (the highest) Heaven."

This is now true within some Spirit-led humans and this perfection will be world realized later when Jesus and his Kingdom builders (humans too !) do bring this world up to
God's Light and Eternal Life Standard. Too bad that some Christians pray the above Lord's prayer and then still live and teach that this evil world will soon be destroyed ! They do not fully believe in Jesus Christ and his infinite Godly Drawing- Transforming Power ! John 12:32 is fully True !

Peace and progress,

What we commonly call the Lord's Prayer as found in Matthew 6, is actually how Jesus modeled for us to pray. This is not His prayer, for it it asks for forgiveness of transgressions, and we all know that Jesus had none. I think many of us fail to grasp this idea, and how we are to pray.

Our Father which art in Heaven
acknowlege who and where God is

Thy Kingdom come.Thy will be done in earth as it is in Heaven--
His Kingdom will be restored, and earth should be perfect
as Heaven is perfect

Give us this day our daily bread
we are dependant upon God for His spiritual food

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors
we need to forgive in order to receive forgiveness,
Jesus needed no forgiveness-this was not His prayer

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
give us the strenth to restist evil and temptaion, for we wish to be with you forever in your Holy Kingdom

It is a repetitive verse used to reinforce a set of concepts or ideals, just as all chants are.

I use this form of chant sometimes with positive reinforcers such as "I am happy and healthy" arranged into similar blank verse. The 'lord's prayer' is very negative in its effect on a person's self-worth and as such is a fine example of a chant used as a negative reinforcer. Have a good look at it... It is a constant repetition of "I am not good enough, I am unable to function without help, I am a worm for not being good enough."

This theme is reflected in the rest of the bible - that without god, people are nothing. Having value only in the eyes of other entities is the very definition of lack of self-worth.

It's a model for us to follow.

What is means to me that Jesus asked for things for "daily" needs, so that tells me that I shouldn't make myself sick worrying about everyday from now on, just try to get through one day at a time. The next day has it's own worries.
