well, a drug abuser is someone that needs drugs to the point where it interferes with thier life. for example, you are willing to spend all your money on drugs, lose your house, and your friends/family just to get your fix. a recreational user is someone that uses drugs occasionally. it doesn't interfere with their life. they have control of the drug and know when to say no.

If you ask yourself this question, you probably have crossed the line from recreational user to drug abuser.

Anyone who uses drugs for recreation is a drug abuser. There is no line. Ask any addict - every single one of them started out using drugs "recreationally".

As the old saying goes:

A ROSE,
BY ANY OTHER NAME,
IS STILL A ROSE.

maybe it should be named "recreational drug abuser"

The line is when the drugs become an obssession. And you no longer have the ability to say no.
